The sheer fact that you're posting is already putting it into motion that people will abuse it. Asking them not to will make then want to do it more.
 
Sure, if they want to abuse it, then they shall enjoy their ban. People have been banned for sure for abusing this offer (purchasing multiple free months at once, getting up to 3 years of free gold). Do not even doubt that you won't get banned if you abuse it. Also, that's my nature, I want to inform honest people how to get some free gold. It's not like it's some sort of a secret.

 
I am too scared to even use it once considering how Microsoft has been this past month. But it is very tempting just so that I can get the Game For Gold for this month.

Not necessarily...if people would stop being jerks, and start thinking smart, then they would see what the results were after it was abused last time and they'll keep off.

FWIW, I have used this free link (or one very similar) about a half-dozen times over the past 8 or so months and my console has not been caught up in the recent wave of MS bans.

 
I used this once or twice in the past. I used to be gold for like 5 years straight, but found I never got my money's worth out of it. I did just redeem a 14 day trial this morning to play some gears 3. I'll have to check back in 2 weeks and see if this still works. How do you guys find this in the first place anyway?
 
There is no ban occurring to people who use this promotion ONCE EVERY MONTH. Do not use it multiple times at once and you will not get banned.

I want to use it, but there's no option for discover cards. I'm not gonna make a PayPal because I have like $5 on the card and it would be unnecessary to give my personal information. Anyone know how to deal with this?

This won't let you stack like previous exploits. If you try it when you already have Gold active, it'll just give you a general error akin to "sorry, this promotion is not available." In other words, it only works if you're Silver.

 
Waiting for the 15th to use it...and then also see if there will be any BF deals on 3 or 12 month subscriptions.

 
I've only had one gold trial previously and that is the one that I got for signing up for a new gamertag on a console. One extra month won't hurt and should buy me some time while I can get a hold of a good deal for 12 months and wait for it to ship.
 
Should I risk using it? I've been living off of the few trials I can find here and there, but I haven't used this method the entire time it's existed.
 
Omg... There is no risk in using it; stop being so skeptical, people. The only reason they banned some users who used it was because they were abusing it by purchasing multiple free months of gold (up to 3 years total) at once. Now that is not possible anymore. As long as you do not do anything else to it or with it, other than using it ONCE PER MONTH, you do not run any sort of risk. There, now do not question it anymore.

No bans using once will not get you banned is an opinion not fact. I know this will be abused and they "MIGHT" ban you cause you used it only once. You get banned you deserve it now.

I very (very) highly doubt it that those bans were handed out exclusively due to this promotion hosted by Microsoft being used once and only once by those accounts. In my opinion It's impossible to get banned because of that reason exclusively. The promotion is legitimate, hosted by Microsoft (emphasising it again) and they have complete control over it, hence being able to take it down and/or bring it back up. So what, do you think it's some sort of a trap? Seriously now... Talking from my personal experience, I used it 4 times total up to this point and this is the important part: once per month. Unless those people actually ask for the real reason on the xbox forums in the "My LIVE account was suspended" section, we cannot say it happened because of this promotion, no matter what they say. That is the real proof; asking on the xbox forums and getting a response from the XBLPET stating precisely that they got banned because they used that promotion hosted by Microsoft, not assumptions. Now once again, stop being skeptical, not just you, but everyone else.

I was only skeptical because I have just about everything on my live account and I'm being careful because i don't want to lose it. Thanks for clearing this up guys.

given what's went down with the recent bannings, better safe than sorry...microsoft has shown they will ban your shit with no recourse and just copy and paste generic responses if you try to get a response from them.

going to hold off til there's something I actually want to play online or if the next free game after halo 3 is good and something I dont have.

 
Word of caution, they did ban many people for using the previous link. People that used it only once even. This is NOT worth it unless you are willing to lose your account. If you can live with that, have at it.

 
I agree with FlamedLiquid. Gonna wait a month or two until I can be sure about the bans or until there's a good game I want to download.

I had the same problem. I couldn't connect to live because of something about security proofs. I just changed my email and entered the code they sent me and it worked.

Well it helped somewhat, but I still wasn't able to get the free month of gold. After I confirmed it. I got this.

Uh oh... that shouldn't have happened.
It appears you've found a glitch in the system.

After trying it again I got it to work. I've bought 3 years of gold and didn't want to buy another year. I wish I had took advantage of this instead of buying the last year I bought, but I didn't know about it.

Glitch in the system? Maybe Microsoft caught on again. I guess you might just have to wait it out. Or ask support if they can speed up the waiting process. Just don't mention the promo.

I tried it one more time after it did that and it worked. I should have thought about changing my email to get past the proofs. It worked great. I finally get to take advantage of the free gold after buying so much for years.

I wish I knew it about it before that last year of gold I bought. I could have saved some money.

If they EVER banned you for "abusing" this promo you could have a field day w/ them.  You choose not to renew becasue you want to CONTROL when you get CHARGED.  I.e. - Never

 
Maybe the reason it stop working because people were able to stack it so they fixed it. I have a bunch of 48hr trials that I planned to use only when I want to play online but I think I'll use this one again. I've used this every month for like 4 or 5 months with no bans. But after getting all the free games with no bans, I don't wanna give MS a reason to get me. I'll probably just skip this month and if it works next month then cool. They better not ban me for using 48 hr trials though lol. Knock on wood.

Also anyone know what would be the reasoning or wording MS would ban you for using this once every month? I mean what is this promo? Anyone got links to FAQS about it? Thanks.

I contacted MS Support (even though they have a TREMENDOUSLY GREAT track record) I have them on record saying it is okay to use this link. As it is provided by MS themselves. Just don't abuse it.

I dont think this ever stacked. As soon as you use the link once you are made gold and you cant use it again. Its only for silver members. So quite honestly without using the link again each month I dont see how it could have been abused.

 
People that got banned deserved it and just claimed they didnt abuse it. I had no problems at all so I say its fine :D
