If you'll indulge me, I've got a question about that primitive piece of throwback tech known as the PS3.
I recently purchased a Western Digital 320GB Scorpio Blue HD to replace the stock 160GB one in my slim PS3. The stock hard drive is the same type of WD, just smaller.
I'm running into an issue where the new 320GB HD is causing Blu-ray playback freezes. Doesn't matter what studio the disc comes from; at some point the movie/TV show will lock up the PS3. Trying to chapter skip will also freeze the PS3. I can eject the movie with the remote, but I have to hold down the power button to restart the system.
This isn't a problem with when streaming with Netflix. Also, games have run fine with no issues at all.
Re-installing the stock HD fixes the problem. I've tried most of the various tech suggestions (resetting the defaults; rebuild the desktop; etc.) The only thing I haven't done is a complete, deep re-format of the drive, which will take nearly 19 hours.
Anyone else run into this, or hear of this before? I'm guessing it's not the laser, since disc-based games are rock solid. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
