FXX has secured the exclusive cable, VOD and non-linear rights to The Simpsons

I'm really confused on how this all works.  I know with prime shows like the Simpsons, the ad rates are probably high and its worth the money, but since FXX is owned by Fox, couldn't they have just started airing the eps while allowing CW (who has been showing the older eps since the 90s) to continue to air as well?

In essence this deal is for cable/sat channel syndication along with having it available on the upcoming Fox mobile streaming app. Local channel syndication (like your CW station) however will remain the same for The Simpsons as ever as that's still a huge money cow for FOX and would be a huge loss for them to pull the plug on that source of revenue.

Who the fuck is going to watch every fucking episode during that marathon?  I lost interest in the show in the mid 90's.  Never watch it these days.  This show needs to be cancelled already.
