Installed 1TB hard drive in PS4 and it's not working.

CAGiversary!
Had an external I cracked open, a 1TB Seagate. The drive inside is actually a Samsung. Anyway, downloaded the 1.51 update to a flash drive, went through the steps of creating a PS4 folder and the UPDATE subfolder. Took the 1.51 system file and put it in the UPDATE folder. Put the USB stick with this in the PS4 and started the process in safe mode. Everything seemed to run fine, then when the system reboots after, mine rebooted to a blank screen. Blue light just pulses and that's it. I tried it again with a different flash drive, but got the same result. Anybody else have this issue or know how to get it to work?

hmm Are you sure the new drive you put in are at the specs for PS4? I have had friends who did what you did on their PS3 and the system didn't recognize it. Also it might have been a bad install I would try installing it again or redownloading the update.

Well it's a Samsung Spinpoint 1TB, 5400 rpm drive. Model # ST1000LM024. I really have no idea why it wouldn't work, but it sure didn't. I put the original hard drive back in and it works again, so the system isn't bricked or anything.

From what I've read the PS4 uses a 5400rmp hard drive, so I don't think that's the issue. Might try a different 1TB drive and see what happens.

Well I tried another 1TB, this time a Western Digital 5400rpm and it worked. For some reason it did not like the Samsung drive. I've read of some others having the same problem.

It could be that your hdd was not formatted properly to notice it. I believe the hard drive has to be formatted to fat32. If it's NTFS then it wont read. I had an external and usb drives to NTFS and my ps3 didn't read it.

The WD drive that worked was formatted NTFS, as was the Samsung. I had the WD drive already. It was actually a Buffalo 1TB external that I opened up. I paid $50 for it earlier this year.
