Background info from Dengeki Playstation, translated by Siliconera:
http://www.siliconera.com/2013/11/26/persona-5s-characters-will-restrained-modern-society/

According to Dengeki PlayStation, the characters of Persona 5 will be living the hard lives of modern-day society, where each one of them will be restrained by something. Atlus are working on a story that can allow players to experience a new world, along with a new sense of values, together with characters who will bring out a strong sense of reality.

As previously reported, the game will take place in the series’ usual juvenile school setting, but with a different mood; however, Atlus emphasizes that although Persona 5 will have a different mood, they aim to make it into a new game that will still provide a feeling of reassurance to the fans of the series.

While Atlus’ characteristics will be present in Persona 5, another one of their goals is to have players feel passion, cry and laugh, then finally feel a sense of elation when all is said and done.

Seems interesting. Totally fucking excited.

Atlus trolled the heck out of us but hey, four Persona games for next year.

I think I would have appreciated a steady flow of Persona games instead of this cluster jam of four games all in the same year. Hard to believe it'll be 6 years since the last (true) Persona game.

Sounds like this thankfully will be a new environment and not be based on 3 or 4 like I feared.  Instead they are relegating that shit to spinoffs that I don't care about.  Good.

Wish they had shown some of the game or really any specific info about the characters and story. Still very excited though!

Anyone think a :360: version is a possibility, at least in the USA? I guess Catherine and P4 Arena must have died pretty hard on 360 for Atlus to totally give up on the console.

There was a little bit of info in the Dengeki article:

3) Persona 5
The chairs in the trailer are in a classroom of a high school and the theme of the game will be centred around the chairs and chains.
They are trying to make a game which is using the chains a sort of catalyst to send a burning and unforgettable message to the players: The chains represent the ordeals in your life. You have to overcome them in order to unshackle these chains. (Not exactly the most literal or accurate translation for the chairs/chains motif, but I think I’m close to what Hashino-san is trying to convey?)
Even though the game will still be taking place in a high school and revolve around the high school life, however the atmosphere of this life will be completely different from the others.

4) Dengeki Hashino Katsura Interview
- Persona 5 started development after Catherine’s ended in August 2011.
- At that time they wanted to develop it for the mobile. (I think here he means portables (Vita/PSP) than mobile phone.)
- However, they realised that majority of the fans/players wanted HD, so they decided on developing it for HD machines (aka PS3) instead.
- There is a hint hidden in the 5 chairs and chains. (god knows what they are.)
- They are aware that a lot of people are hoping that Persona 5 can be released on the next generation machines (AKA PS4), however they have very limited development resources and are unable to do it. (Understandable, considering they were almost on the brink of disappearing because of Index. DAMN YOU INDEX.)
- The specs for PS4 are wonderful.
- There will be more information for P5, at the start of next year.

albeit I can read Kanji I really do not want to have to get this in japanese
No need to worry about that. I wouldn't be surprised if Atlus brings it over very quickly (within a month or two, possibly even sooner considering Persona's popularity in the States), as they've done with SMTIV and P4A.

(Via GAF) Looks like Atlus accidentally put up the US site for Persona 5 a little early.

Coming 2015 for PS3

The creator of the GAF thread, TheTrueSelf, also found URLs for the other games (Q, Arena 2, Dancing). Right now, they just lead to pages with a "Forbidden" error.

Some more info from the Atlus PR guy at GAF:

Hey, so I'm offsite right now and don't have the wherewithall to comb through all your questions, but here's a general amount of stuff you can mull over:

1) We're trying to avoid region-locking on P4AU
2) For all the releases (except PQ), we're trying to be relatively close to Japan's release. Not Dragon's Crown close, but close.
3) No rumblings about anything on PS4 yet, that shit just launched in Japan. Keep your fingers crossed for solid sales.
4) SO HYPE FOR DANCING ALL NIGHT.

First trailer premiered at Sony's conference tonight. Just some anime footage, but the big news is that Persona 5 is now being released on both PS3 and PS4. EDIT: Oh, and the release was pushed back to 2015, it looks like.

Good news except people should be wary of getting suckered into buying the first release of a Persona game, given Atlus' m.o. of putting out better versions like P3:FES, P3P, and P4G (this one still ticks me off given their prevarication).

Yeah, God forbid the console game you bought would get ported to a handheld four years later. You'd really feel like a chump.

Yep - straight on this one, brilliant news. I'm back out in Japan around Easter 2015 so if it's out by then I'll be nabbing a copy, then worrying about learning Japanese.

They lie to take your money in order to put out an incomplete product early, then put together just enough changes to entice a rebuy. Other companies tend to just make a whole new game in that timeframe, or like Blizzard (Diablo III) or SE (FF XIV), a way to jump into a new version without throwing all the hours sunk into the game again. I'd definitely rather not waste my time and dough on a game that has little replay value (speaking as someone who finds the Persona dungeon crawling boring and uninspired) and never any way of transferring progress when I know they'll just release a universally agreed upon better version. Since they didn't announce a Vita version, it's basically a lock for Goldenification. I'd much rather play RPGS on a portable so I can actually finish the damn things.

Also, it's not like Personas are multiplayer and get worse if not played day one. A real CAG can wait, especially with so many other games to be had for cheap and usually in one's giant backlog.

Diablo 3 at launch was terrible. It took them over a year and one expansion pack to get the game right. FF XIV had the same problems, bad at launch, and over time it got good. Persona is a good game to begin with, and so what if they put out a new version of it a few years later. I would rather support a company that has a fun game at launch then a broken mess, even though there is a golden version 3-4 years later.

Yes a CAG can wait, but I like to show support to companies that don't put out half finished messes in hope that they get fixed later.

Excited for P5, although I need to play through P3P and P4 before P5 comes out, lol.
