Problems with Nintendo Network ID Setup

I opened my new Mario/Luigi 3DS XL and tried setting up the Nintendo Network ID. Input everything, then it kept giving me error messages when putting in my actual ID (Zolor23). I finally got it to go through, then it tells me that there has been a connection error. I try again and it tells me the ID has already been used. At this point, I'm assuming that the actual request to set up the ID went through and Zolor23 is registered, but it just gave me an error message. I go to sign in and it tells me the information I have entered is not correct.

Afterwards, I get an email from Nintendo telling me to confirm my e-mail. The link inside this e-mail does not work. Sends me to a page saying "Either there is a mistake in the URL or it has expired." It also has instructions if the link does not work to:

"Steps for systems in the Nintendo 3DS family:

1. Open Nintendo Network ID Settings in System Settings.
2. Select E-Mail Confirmation (Please note, this option will not appear if you have already confirmed your e-mail address).
3. Choose either to enter your confirmation code or request another confirmation-code e-mail."

The problem is, when I open Nintendo Network ID Settings on my 3DS XL, there is no button for E-Mail Confirmation. There are only buttons for "Linking an existing ID" or "Creating a new ID." This means they either took it out and they never updated the e-mail, or I already confirmed my e-mail, which I have not. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just contact them?

There has been connection issues the last 2 days, but I power cycled the 3DS, then they eventually worked as I kept trying (eshop, miiverse, etc). Try going into the eshop to download a demo, or making a post on the miiverse (top-right on home menu, if you have latest update...try to update it, too, btw). Those require you to have the ID registered, and offer troubleshooting when you're not properly set up, I think. When I had issues with the email confirmation, I found a place to resend in the miiverse profile area. I know it's related to Ninty's network issues, but since you're kinda halfway registered, you may need to call Nintendo support. I hope this helps.

It's tough to know what to do since the name has been taken by me, but I can't use the name. I e-mailed them to see what they can do for me. Hopefully, it'll be good news.

I think the huge numbers of new users has swamped the eShop.  I've got two new devices setup after a little trouble but the third still hasn't connected.  It's just a matter of some patience.

They replied back with a generic email saying that at the time, their network was overwhelmed. It was fixed when I set my username up again a couple minutes ago. I'm not sure if they canceled my original registration or it was just telling me that the username was taken just because I had put in a request.

It works, so whatever.
