Crazy? Or ahead of one's time?

20 years ago, if someone said there was a camera in your TV that the government used to watch you, everyone would have thought that person was crazy.

Today, television manufacturers ADVERTISE the cameras in their internet-enabled televisions and no one would be at all surprised to learn that the government is watching us through them.

Paranoid? Someone's been masturbating to too much 1984...

Anyway, I hope they're watching me. I've been working on a sexy strip tease that I certainly don't want to go to waste.

I'm definitely paranoid. I cover all of the cameras on my devices with tape, even my phone. Does anybody know a way to temporarily disable the microphone?

Also eulogywerd21, I know you're somewhat joking, but the level of apathy from people like you is exactly why the government can do stuff like this. 9 out of 10 people are mildly annoyed, but not enough to get off the couch. And without any real resistance, the government can do pretty much whatever they want.

I appreciate the OP and I am joking because nothing else can be done about this via CAG message boards. Shall we rally and make our voice heard inbetween Steam keys and sales at Best Buy? Show me a petition, I'll sign it. Present me with a believable political candidate/official who's truly anti invasion of privacy, I'll vote for them. Apart from that, we're just pissing into the wind because the NSA will only get worse and the current elected body know and don't care or encourage it.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to watch The Three Stooges.

Signing a petition would probably have about as much effectiveness as this thread on this board. :(
There is one tool out there and capable of reaching a lot of people and it's very impressionable with younger generations, if some people were to use social media in the right manner and say a movement in one direction with the younger crowd I can see big change happening. At least I like to think that, I know most people act that not knowing is better.

If you honestly think this problem can be solved by voting in different cadidates, I've got some bad news for you son. I'll let George explain it for you:

It would be a part of a solution. Many people on the left vote with emotion, on the right choose lesser of both evils. Many do not care, including people of my age. Just imagine if students actually got involved and voted with their brains and hearts.

I really find this not to be true, everyone pretty much votes for whatever benefits them the most in general. But back on topic, it is a bit disconcerting about all the cameras in tvs. I remember reading an article a while back about the UK where people would be okay with the government spying on them through their tvs, wish I could find it again.

Are you fucking kidding me? How is he paranoid and what do you mean you "hope" they're watching you? Haven't you been paying attention? They're quite literally recording every single thing on the Internet, Skype, etc. They can look through virtually any camera connected to the Internet. I have to wonder about someone that's so out of the loop for the last year coming here and posting something like this.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a TV with a camera in it. I'm sure the government is recording everything and while I dislike that, the amount of data they record is massive and no one is likely to look at it. I'm more concerned about someone at Samsung or whoever the manufacturer is looking in at me. While I believe people in our government want to make sure they don't abuse their power, I have no such belief about some random dude in South Korea.

It's cool to have a Skype camera in your living room but it should be a detachable one like Kinect.

I'm going to need you to calm down, take deep breaths and slowly remove your fist from your anus. It's known as sarcasm. You might try Googling it.

Bullshit. now that your ignorance is shown, you pretend to have been sarcastic when in fact what you said is what people were saying this time last year before all this leaked.

You are a sad, humor-less little person and I recognize I shouldn't feed trolls, even preach the principle, so now...

Leave your fist in your ass, for all I care.

And, done.

There are criminal amounts of data collection going on and perhaps anyone could access your camera if they wanted to, but holy god -- you guys actually block your cameras for privacy? The government peering down your webcam is an actual daily concern of yours?  :dunce:

Psst... If the government can do it... so can anyone with enough brains and enough free time to figure it out.

I could be watching you right now.

Did you know there are websites out there that war ping for open (or quasi-open) camera feeds and let anyone with free time watch them?

*destroys computer and everything else with a camera in it*

but yes, I do cover the camera's on some things I own.
I don't leave a camera attached to my computer. I had no idea that was a thing people did. I have a small camera for skype that I plug into a front USB port maybe 2-3 times a year. I see no reason to leave it plugged in all the time.
