Where to sell a special edition game?

OffTopicTommy

CAG Newbie
Hello all.

I'm actually trying to find a place to sell a higher priced, rare game special edition set I acquired. I keep hearing ebay, but when I posted there they pulled the game and suspended my account because "the game was never sold in stores". Mom & pop stores and Gamestop aren't interested. Does anyone have any websites they could recommend? The only one I really have found is 'collectors edition', and CAG.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I see it.  He has the game hidden in that tag under the topic.  Uncharted 2 Fortune Hunter.  You could only win it, not buy it.  I don't see how that's against eBay's selling terms;  it's no different than say that Nintendo Championships cart that's being sold for smabillions of dollars and has no way of being authenticated.

I would tend to believe they pulled the listing and suspended your account for reasons other then "the game wasn't sold in stores"

Edit: And why would GS be interested?

I haven't tried here yet, because I'm a new user and you have to wait 30 days to post in that section. But this isn't something that I do regularly so I wouldn't have really had an account here before.

It's the complete Uncharted 2: Fortune Hunter set.

And I hadn't previously had an ebay account prior, that was my first listing ever. And I was told by the ebay rep on the phone that is why it was being pulled.  And I called Gamestop because they purchase games, and may have been able to give me a location to try.

Yeah.  You've got no rep, no credit, and no history.  I don't think you'll be able to sell a $5,000+ valued item on the internet like that.  Your only chance at this point is through an experienced/professional 3rd party who can sell it for you.

Also: Pawn Stars.

How did you come across the game and how much are you looking for?

Kerig, I actually tried calling Pawn Stars! The old man answered the phone, told me he wasn't interested, and hung up on me! And when I called back (thinking it may have been a misunderstanding) he answers the phone 'nope!' and hangs up again before I said anything!  And the funny thing is that I hadn't even listed the game on ebay yet...I had it saved because I was researching the price still. But the ebay rep told me they review those too. Do you have any suggestions for an experienced professional?

Hah! Rick would probably offer you $50 for the knife and tell you he doesn't want the rest.

It looks like a realistic price is about $1,000 new.  Only recent eBay auction was some douche trying to get 15k with 4 failed offers.  No sale...twice.

I'd check with GBAstar: He's got more Portal guns than most cowboys have revolvers.

I think the market has passed for these... and I don't see an upswing any time soon. Years most likely.

At one point I remember seeing an eBay seller out of Australia that had 10+ for sale; I know these were prizes of some sort and never sold. I'm not sure if he won a bunch or just bought them up from resellers before the demand was sky high.

Either way OP I'd be interested in how you came across this.

And if you're trying to sell your best bet is finding someone to put it up on consignment as it is pretty obvious you don't have experience with this type of thing if you're trying to pass it off on GS.

But first...Rick would need to call his friend who specializes in these things.

And I called Gamestop to ask their advice on local stores, not to ask them to purchase it.

I wonder, is there any way to set up a minimum tickets sold raffle for something like this? Kind of like CAG's charity raffle, but with a reasonable base amount. I'd be willing to throw in if that were the case. Not sure how you'd be able to guarantee impartiality. Might try hitting up Cheapy and see how he handles it.

Getting $5 from 100 people might be easier than getting $500 from 1 person. Just an idea.

It's gonna be really hard to sell something that expensive without any kind of reputation. Nobody is going to trust you, unless you find someone locally somehow (do not use Craigslist, you'll likely get robbed).

I think your one and only option is to consign it and you're gonna lose out a ton on fees (probably 10-15% eBay fees plus whatever the seller wants).

As far as the 'trust issue' goes, I do understand that. However, paypal would hold the money from me until the seller confirms they received the item and it's in good condition. And if it's not, the buyer can be refunded. I called and asked them how it would work in this situation. But I understand what you're saying. It just seems like I'm not going to be able to sell it, I guess. I can't find anywhere near me to 'consign' it.

My advice is to hold off from selling the edition now until there is more hype around the Uncharted Series.  While you wait, build your eBay account by slowing buying and selling smaller items.  Say when there is a new Uncharted game announced, people will start searching for Uncharted items more than they are now and that would the best time to list it.
