Any interest in a Yahoo Fantasy Baseball league?

The 2 leagues that I were in from last year basically fizzed out so now I need to find a new one. Was thinking of just making a new one with about 12-16 managers, could be a keepers league if everyone agrees. Anyone interested?

Looks like we're getting some good results, I've already made the league but will wait and see if more people are interested before sending out invites.

One more thing, this isnt going to be like a standard Yahoo league. I've been playing in a custom one for the past 5-6 years or so and found that these catagories make the the game more fun. Here's the differences:

-No OF spots, will be made up of LF/CF/RF so you'll have to draft accordingly. So for example, if you draft Ryan Braun he will only be allowed to play either LF or util. Now say you have someone like Mike Trout who alternated between left and center last year, you can put him either at LF/CF/util.

-Pitcher spots will be 3 SP, 3 RP, and 3 P. Will include a minimum innings pitched of 20 innings (if your team doesnt have 20 innings pitched within the week's time, you will lose all pitching catagories).

-2 DL spots instead of 1

-With the inclusion of an NA spot in Yahoo leagues starting this year, decided to add it to the league. Still deciding on whether we should have 1 or 2 spots but basically the NA spot acts like a DL except for minor leaguers/real life free agents. So say you want someone like Oscar Tavares or Byron Buxton, you can stash them there and it wont take up a roster spot until they get called up. Perfect for guys like Taveras who is most likely gonna start in the minors and get called up midseason or for keeper leagues where you can stash a promising rookie.

-For scoring, using the default yahoo settings but also added these catagories:

 Hitters:

  -Doubles

  -Triples

  -Walks

  -Fielding Errors

  -On-base percentage

 Pitchers:

  -Losses

  -Complete games

  -Shutouts

  -Walks

  -Holds

Also are you guys cool with this? Anything you want to change or add please let me know so we can make the league more fun.

More categories than I'm used to, but I'm fine with most of them. I'm not crazy about doubles or triples, but the one I'm most opposed to is errors.

Too many stat categories. Having AVG, OBP, and Walks will lead to lots of double-dipping. Losses and Errors are meaningless stats that are often not even the fault of the player who incurs them.

Ok guys, I just sent out the first batch of invites to everyone who's posted in thread so far. Just click the URL in the link and you'll be able to sign up. Some notes:

Draft date is right now set up for Saturday March 15 at 8:00 pm EST, 5:00 PM PST. I'm going to post a poll message in the league, please vote to see if this time is ok with you.

Also will add another poll to see if everyone is interested in making this a keeper's league. Again please vote.

As for the settings, I took notice of the complaints and will remove doubles, triples, fielding errors, and OBP. The rest (hitters walks, pitching losses, pitching walks, CG, SHO, and holds) will stay the same for now.

If you guys know of anyone else (doesnt have to be a CAG member) who's interested and will be active, please feel free to invite them to the league.

I started playing fantasy sports because of CAG. If you're still in need of managers, please let me know. It just wouldn't seem right if I wasn't in some form of CAG baseball league.

I'll vouch for him. He's a good member, and was in my other league for several years.

Sent Hydro.

One question, are you guys fine if I open this up to make it a public league to fill up the rest of the spots? Since the draft is next Saturday, I'm thinking of waiting to this Friday or so before doing it.

So far we have 10 spots counting you Diddy. If anyone else wants to join we still have plenty of spots. Still looking for either 4or 6 more people.

I joined officially. Draft date is perfect. I think we should stay at 10 or maybe 12. No more than 2 random/public leaguers, because they tend to end up as dead teams if they don't get what they want in the draft.

I'll join. I'd think keeping OBP and dropping AVG/walks would be the more efficient route. Some pruning could also be done on the pitching side as well, but the world won't end if nothing changes.

I see where you were going with the doubles and triples categories, trying to incorporate guys who get extra base hits without necessarily hitting many HR. Eliminating HR and instead using SLG to represent doubles, triples, and HR would help give players who hit for a high average and middling HR power a boost, while penalizing players like Adam Dunn, who hit for a low average and do little outside of HR in the extra base hit department.

W/L should be dumped for QS. No sense in having a negative category for pitchers if you've got nothing going on for the batters.

Pitcher walks, W, L, CG, and SHO could be replaced by IP and QS. It'd keep the pitching balance towards SP, while still making relievers relevant with saves, holds, WHIP and ERA.

We're currently at 12 and i wouldnt mind if you joined but it seems like most people here said they would prefer a small league around 10-12.

People already in the league, are you guys ok with 2 more to make it 14?

I really don't mind too much either way, but I'd wait until you had another for certain before letting anybody else in. If we have an odd number of teams, I think Yahoo won't let us draft.

Yea of course, if one more joins then I'll definitely add them. Just want to get a consensus to see if everyone is ok with making the league a bit bigger

14 is cool with me. Like pitfallharry219 said, wait until you have a 14th before you allow anyone else in or we will be unable to draft (unless someone drops out).

Little off-topic but wanted to get you guys' thoughts.

In another league this year I have to choose a keeper between Bryce Harper, Prince Fielder, or Kershaw. Any thoughts?

Just one keeper? I'd think it's between Harper and Kershaw... I'd probably lean towards Harper, because pitching seems very deep this year (on paper, anyway).

I would be interested if you still need a 14th player.
Ok, looks like we have our 14th player. I'll be sending the invites in a minute. But please sign up ASAP.

I'm currently on my phone but just note that I edited the pitching catagories that everyone suggested. I'll post them later tonight.

Gamerdude, I'd keep Harper. I've been listening to a lot of fantasy baseball podcasts over the past few weeks and almost everyone agrees that Trout and Harper will go #1 and #2 in drafts for the next several years to come. Plus I cant trust pitchers and how durable they are. You might get about 2-3 good years out of them before most of them either regress (like Lincecum) or injuries (like Johan Santana). Also how it seems most pitchers these days get Tommy John surgeries like they have stained hamstrings.

yeah I am keeping Harper in that league.  Will hopefully get Fielder with my 1st or 2nd round pick.

Our draft is still tomorrow night correct?

Ok guys, draft is gonna be later tonight. Got 14 so we're good to go. Here's the final stat catagories for the league

Hitters:

-Runs

-Home runs

-RBI

-Stolen Bases

-Walks

-Avg

Pitchers:

-Wins

-Saves

-Walks

-Strikeouts

-Holds

-ERA

-WHIP

-Quality Start

Good luck to everyone!

That's what I told him. Lol. It sucks though cause I had to autodraft some of the picks in that league and the ESPN baseball all is useless for drafting. Ugh. Ended up with a bench full of 1B :(
