Are there an places to trade in dvds/ blu rays?

FYE definitely does. Not sure about TIV's though.

I remember back in 2009, I had like 30-50 music CDs that I didn't want anymore so I decided to sell them to FYE. I ended up getting over $300 and bought a PS3. I was pleasantly surprised with their CD trade in values.

Yeah the Best Buy upgrade and save were great times to clear out DVDs. Sadly i dont think best buy plans on doing that promo again. I hope so.

Several years ago, I had a garage sale and sold all my VHS tapes for $1.00 each, and sold the lot. Hoping to have the same luck this year with my DVDs.

for us it was great but for them it was horrid. i cant imagine how much money they lost off of that program
Did I miss something from the last time the promo ran? They ran the promo like 4 different times, months apart. Why would they run it again if it didn't do well for them?

I'm trying to think of what they actually did with those DVDs. They required case+art, no rentals, no porn, no bootleg/ripped. To me it sounds like they probably donated the DVDs, then wrote them off for taxes (at more than $5 per).

to me if they werent loosing alot of money from the program than it would still be going on every few months. its been like a year and a half since the last time they did it isnt it ?

There's a smaller company called BuyBacks that will do it. They have shitty management, but can occasionally have decent values based on what they currently have in stock. They're not in every state, though.

I can't find any stores that take them like GameStop years ago.
Gamestop opened up Moviestop so that they would have a store exclusively devoted to movies. The locations are kind of limited though, mostly east coast.

The idea was to clear out Blu-rays because they were planning to shrink the space devoted to them in store. Mission accomplished for Best Buy, so the Upgrade and Save is no longer needed.

Some of these values I'm seeing tossed around in this thread are not actually bad at all for trading in. 75 cents on average to over a dollar? Umm hell yeah considering every website that offers this kinda service won't go near that, like 25 cents at the highest. Assuming you have a bunch of junk that's not worth selling on eBay then I would take the 75 cents - dollar per movie and run as that's great for trading thes days.

The Exchange (look up their site and see if they have one near you as I don't think they are nationwide)

Pawn Shops sometimes buy them but it's pretty rare anymore

Amazon's trade in program which is kinda horrid now as they don't offer nearly anything like they used to so I dom't recommend it

There's another site that eludes me that someone here might know, you send in your titles after looking them up and they'lll pay you by check or Paypal after receiving them. Another I don't recommend since you have to pay shipping and their values suck.

Pretty much when it comes to this stuff the best way to do it if you don't want ripped off is craigslist or eBay to get full values but if you just have a bunch of junk that's nor worth squat then I guess any of these trade in programs will work since something is better than nothing. Even if you have some used movies that are worth 4 or 5 buck after shipping and fees you're gonna come out with barely anything anyway so often it's not worth trying to sell it online especially since it's used and an old title. I also want to point out as I do every time this is asked that Facebook is a great way to sell things if you aren't fond of craigslist. It's became a big trend in the last few years for your local area to have a Buy/Sell/Trade group where people in the immediate community can post thing they want to sell or buy and they can set up exchanges all on the page. My area has a page and it's always active with new posts everyday and I live in a craphole area.

Half price books trade in values are atrocious for dvds and books. About a year ago when I was clearing out my graphic novel collection I brought in like 50 or so hardcovers that retailed for over $500 and they offered me $12 for all of them.

I agree secondspin.com is great, I use it all the time plus I like to save some DVDs for when Best Buy does their Upgrade and Save events

Secondspin is actually owned by FYE. The prices listed on Secondspin.com will generally be about the same at your local FYE store, though this is not always the case anymore.

I usually take it in to Hastings, when they have extra coupons like now. Extra $5 on 5 DVDs or CDs, and $10 extra on 3 blus.

Check for a store like Rasputin, Newbury Comics, Monster Music. Local chain stores sometimes have good TIVs. Or Moviestop if you have one nearby. They had excellent trade in deals for preorders.

i looked up moviestop, their prices are acually good to great and they are opening more around the county as we speak ! looks like we need to make a mega thread for moviestop pretty soon lol. they also have a 10% off program like pur but for now you can only sign up for it instore
