Super Mario Galaxy + Wii U + Wiimote Plus = Choppy controls

I recently got a Wii U and I've played a bunch of Wii U games, and a few original Wii games.  In particular, I've been able to play an original Wii game: Trauma Center without an issue.

However, the original Super Mario Galaxy controls are absolutely horrible on the Wii U.  The pointer on the screen controlled by the Wii mote, used to collect and shoot stars constantly seems to disappear from the screen.  Additionally, when the pointer hits edges of the screen it vibrates the wiimote and takes several seconds to get it to re-register with the screen again.  It makes playing this game quite difficult without being able to use the Wii mote properly.  I don't remember such horrible control when I played the game on my original Wii system.

Has anyone else experienced these issues and/or found a way to solve them?

Maybe move or recalibrate the sensor bar?

I hated the pointer and waggle nonsense in Galaxy anyway. Great game otherwise though. They really should out out an HD collection of the two Galaxy games on Wii U with that stuff removed and built around the gamepad (with touch replacing the pointer).

Dream even bigger, how about a 3D Mario HD remix with Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, and the 2 Galaxy games. Now that would be a system seller and a must buy game.

Definitely a must buy for me. I don't think it would move systems though. If two new Mario games haven't moved Wii U, a collection of old ones definitely won't.

I mostly want the Galaxy games though, I loved the first and never got around to the second. I'll eventually just grab a nunchuck and the Wii version if there's no port announced. No rush since I'm burnt out on platformers currently.

I dont know why using a Wii Remote plus is relevant, Galaxy only used the pointer and waggle accelerometer, not the WM+ gyroscope.

This issue seems to be one of sensor bar placement and/or calibration.

Anecdotally, I have had no issues with SMG on the Wii U and I've changed sensor bars with no issues (going from wired to wireless, Go Rocketfish!)
