Good on Crossfit for doing the right thing. Hormone therapy is not much different from taking steroids and should be considered cheating. Also, being biologically born male still makes your sex male.

HAHAHA.... and so it begins. I predicted this would happen in the transgender bathroom thread. The outcome of this will weigh heavily in other areas in states that have similar laws.

Being a bigot doesn't make you an expert on state law, just so you know.

I wouldn't expect any valid points to be made on the other side of the conversation; but name calling will be plentiful.

I wonder how long until the Massachusetts man who underwent gender reassignment while incarcerated, on the taxpayer dime, will be able to get "reassigned" to a women's prison.

I wonder how long until we get the first "courageous" transgender female in the WNBA.

This is our future. Embrace it.

I will not be using the term "gender" at all in this discussion (except for in this sentence) because feminists in the ~1970s have decided on redefining it to mean a social construct.

Hormone therapy is considered being under the use of steroids, is it not? So if a person who was genetically born a male takes steroids to take on features of a female, isn't that a form of cheating? That person will never have 100% biological features of a female because that person will still be comprised of XY chromosomes. I'm trying to see where the logic would be in supporting people taking sex-transformation hormone therapy as a valid form of steroid use in competitive sports, and I keep coming up short.

Also, right in the article is a statement directly from Crossfit-

"Chloie was born genetically- as a matter of fact- with an X and a Y chromosome and all of the anatomy of a male of the human race... [A] male competitor who has a sex reassignment procedure still has a genetic makeup that confers a physical and physiological advantage over women. We owe it to the competition and the whole pool of female athletes to exclude Chloie from the participating in the female division."

Ya see, estrogen is the same as testosterone and has the same effects.

So apparently things need to stop being male and female competitions.  Get rid of the gender aspects and make them either XX competitions or XY competitions.  Problem solved!  No more I don't like my genitals conversations and everyone is happy.

Also it is very ugly regardless of whatever genitals it ends up having/not having.

In her case the hormone therapy (estrogen) is not an advantage per se.

One could make the argument that they won't allow her to compete because estrogen is often used to mask the use of steroids or HGH or simply because she has an inherent biological advantage. In which case they should consider creating a subdivision for transgender competitors.

Honestly, I don't feel like I should need to write out a long, well thought out post because all it would be doing is wasting my time. There is NO actual discussion here, let alone anything remotely intelligent. What could I possibly say to contend with this?

Also it is very ugly regardless of whatever genitals it ends up having/not having.

There's also the whole debate on whether or not hormone therapy and steroid usage is the same. Or rather, debating about how someone could even come to that conclusion. Do you know why they use the phrase "apples and oranges?" It's not a historical anecdote or a quote from a famous author/speaker. It literally means that it's futile to compare two things that are only the same in the broadest sense.

I really dislike the use of ad hominem but what kind of idiot asks for someone to refute their claim when they have absolutely no basis for it? Estrogen is sometimes given to women who are going through menopause. It doesn't mean they're preparing to shoot off a bazooka and challenge Jeff Jarrett for the IC Title. That's a Chyna reference in case you can't connect dots that actually go together.

That's an interesting idea---separate but equal competitions. Where was that mentality with the separate but equal bathrooms/locker rooms?

This is the only thing they needed to say. Too bad it wouldn't work for them, because she could willingly get tested and prove that she wasn't going lean on the hormone treatments.

I'm surprised that you all act like this is new.

http://en.wikipedia....ation_in_sports

Newer rules permit transexual athletes to compete in the Olympics after having completed sex reassignment surgery, being legally recognized as a member of the sex they wish to compete as, and having undergone two years of hormonal therapy (unless they transitioned before puberty).

this is simply another damn cross-fit manic thinking they've invented the wheel.

There is a transgender woman doing mma fighting. They initially said no because she has the structure of a male no matter how many pills she took or what surgery she had, but last I heard she was competing and the other fighters said it wasn't fair. I understand what they're saying. Bone wise we are set up different (same bones but slightly diff positioning in pelvis) which no surgery could change, it's the reason girls have a hard time with push ups usually
