Grand Theft Auto V, A Flawed Masterpiece or a Perfect Game?

CAGiversary!
About ten hours into my playthrough, my wife said to me, “I don’t think I’ve ever heard you giggle as much as since you started playing this game.” And she was right. So many of the things that GTA IV almost got right were beautifully executed in GTA V. Driving (and piloting) was fun in its own right, and the different handling based on vehicle and terrain kept it exciting and strategically interesting. The quantity and quality of random things to be done, discovered, and experienced was staggering and, more often than not, fun and even clever (like the No Country for Old Men random encounter). The world itself was the most detailed and rewarding open-world game environment I’ve ever seen, and the variety was amazing (especially compared to the much more homogeneous environments of IV).

For me, it was the first GTA I have actually put the time into finishing.  That right there tells me it was a very good game!  I had a lot of fun.  The game and story by itself makes sense, and the heists were something I hadn't really seen before in a game.  It was my favorite game of last year even with TLOU, which I did not finish...

Why didnt you finish the last of us? I just finished it myself, and there were times where i just wanted to give up. Mainly when clickers would kill me and i had to start over just because of their 1 hit kill. Trust me, i really didnt like the shootout parts of the game, but the journey and story was worth getting through the combat parts.

I didn't like the game, personally. The cover shooting was shoddy and the mission structures were either uninspired chase sequences or just flat out chores. As for the game's humour, it's a shallow form of social commentary that I didn't fin the least bit amusing or original. I know I'm in the minority, but that's my 2 cents.

After finishing GTA V, I decided to finish IV - but I really could not get into playing IV. I really enjoyed the last of us, certainly a game you gotta finish. Both The Last of Us & GTAV where games that kept me entertained and games I could not put down. I felt similar with BioShock Infinite, but that's a whole nother story...
