Colbert to Replace Letterman on "Late Show" in 2014

Not sure how this will turn out. He's most likely going to - well - be himself instead of the character he's created for the Colbert Report. He's a mixed bag and it could seriously be awesome or terrible depending on many factors.

I see far too many people who buy into his satire as some sort of perverted "truth".  I'd be happier with him off the air completely instead of herding those sheep.

He's going up against Jimmy Fallon so he could be miserably sick, pissed, and high as a kite and still do a better show. Man NBC must feel like fools with how all of this turned out. Months of turmoil and millions of dollars later the guy they fought for leaves them not even 5 years after signing on and they get stuck with Jimmy Fallon of all people headlining the Tonight Show. Should have kept Conan losers, enjoy your reign as second best still.

You can't bring Colbert the Character on to Network TV. He was a parody of Fox News talking crackers, and for Letterman's show you can't do that. It would be great to see a Stephen Colbert on TV that we haven't seen in A LOOOONG time.

All I know is: I'm gonna miss the fuck out of The Colbert Report.

I wonder who'll take up his 11:30 spot. making The Daily Show an hour long is the obvious choice, but I don't know if Jon Stewart would be up for it. John Oliver would have been another choice had he not gotten his own show on HBO, but I'm afraid it's be too similar to TDS in comedy style. I honestly don't see any of the other correspondents being able to carry their own 30-minute show at the moment.

Chris Hardwick will change the name of his show to @ElevenThirty.

Except Fallon is killing both Kimmel and Letterman in the ratings.

I rather liked Fallon's tweet that Stephen now has to change his name to Jimmy Colbert.

Yeah, I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I'm happy for him to get this opportunity, on the other, no more Colbert Report. And there's no way anyone can fill those shoes. I doubt The Daily Show goes an hour. Sometimes when it's a slow news week it's obvious they are stretching to fill just the half hour.
