I'm planning to get a 3DS this week and while the $40 gift card with $200 XL at Target deal seems tempting, this seems like a viable alternative for those that would rather just pay $31 less up front.  It also comes with a free game of your choice, but they're trash reject games so I did not include that as a selling point in the topic title. I suppose Cooking Mama isn't bad though.

In addition, for $10 more you can have the Mario and Luigi Dream Team limited edition XL with dream team built in for $179. Something to think about.

I think I'm going to try to price match this after work, I think my chances are very slim but it's worth a shot.  If I can walk out of Target with a 3ds xl for 169 and a $40 gc I will be very happy.

 
The Walmart website also has the Mario and luigi 3ds xl available with paper Mario sticker star for $185.
But more importantly, they got a restock of the blue pokemon x&y edition today in case you missed out on that one last year.

because it is a walmart exclusive starter bundle pack. Sort of like the Target/TRU 2DS pokemon pre-loaded bundles. I tried to PM it today at BB with their 25 dollar GC and that is what they told me :/

 
so i was able to price match it at my local target

i think i got lucky, the rep i got was a real nice guy plus he was on his way out to lunch

anyway, i asked if i could price match walmart.com, showed them the 169 bundle deal through my phone's web browser, and voila, see attached pic

they didnt ask if i wanted the game ( i didnt), nor did i ask if i could get the bundle, it was just a straight up 3ds xl black purchase for 169

they ringed up the 3ds xl, system asked them to add the gift card, then they did the price match

Had a bunch of Best Buy credit so I went there and they matched this no issue at all, just without the game included. Got the $25 gift card I guess is their promotion also with no problem.

Good deal! I went with a blue one and got A Link Between Worlds to get started with.
 
Would you be able to use the target $40 gift card toward the price match purchase? My local target usually offers to deduct the gift card amount from the item instead of giving you one.
 
Well, I tried. Target said they'd price match walmart, but there would be no gift card. One or the other. 

Best Buy wouldn't even price match the $40 gift card from the Target ad, much less let me combine it with the $25 one they were offering.  In the end I just bit the bullet and bought the mario and luigi dream team xl for $175 off ebay. :( To think if I had acted a hair faster a couple days ago I could have gotten the Zelda 3DS with between worlds that I wanted most of all, new for $165 .  Life isn't fair sometimes...
