So I have a HTC One V that I only use for wifi.

Last week I bought a wintec filemate memory card that was factory sealed and "shipped to store" from sears. The package wasnt compromised in any way is what I am getting at.

I snapped some pics yesterday and when I downloaded them today, there were 7 thumbnail files of images I have never seen.

The only other change I made is I uninstalled facebook messenger today.

Here is a link to the images: http://imgur.com/a/aOrfd/all

My thought are that these are some type of test image from the factory? Normally when I get a small image 120x96, they are leftovers after I downloaded a full size image the next time I download images form my phone.

These images though, I have never seen until today.

I ran malwarbytes on them and nothing strange was found.

Any info would be appreciated.

And I live alone, so no one else has access to my phone.

I doubt test images would be of anything other than the most generic stuff. The pic of the guy with the bunch of bandages in his back was the guy who was sent to prison, where he was raped and stabbed a bunch of times (but he deserved it).

And I'm pretty sure that second pic is of a bunch of porn discs.

So where would they come from? Do you think it is a virus on my phone? Was that guy that got stabbed in Asia? because it seems like all of the pics except for that basketball player are asian. TBH IDK who the basketball player even is. I can google it, but that just shows how random everything is.

No one has access to my phone and I haven't seen any of those images before today. I wonder if they are from hooking up to a random wifi network? I do use the libraries wifi too. The strange thing is I've been using this phone on wifi for over a year and nothing like this happened before.

And I would like to add I used to work in tech support for a phone company, so this is driving me crazy. This tech (smartphones, wifi) was after I worked in the industry, though.

Are any of the other images something I could research? If the pear a company logo? I've seriously never seen these any of these images before.

I should also add these didn't show when I scrolled through my pics on my phone. When I downloaded my pics to my computer, these showed up in the same folder.

ok, I just checked my facebook logins and there is a strange one on there. I am going to end all activity. I have a feeling someone may have hacked my phone through facebook messenger or through the groups. I'm not sure if the two things are related or not though.

FWIW, I once opened a sealed Sandisk SD card and found a short pornographic video already on it. The card was inside of that hard clamshell plastic, so I have no idea how it would've got on there, unless someone at the factory put it on there.

I would imagine that the pictures were put on the SD card by the seller. I don't know what kind of sellers Sears uses, but given their financial woes, they've outsourced a lot of their services and whatnot.

And I have heard that it's possible to infect computers using picture files but I'm not sure about the validity of that.

Well I ran malwarebytes and norton on my computer and nothing was found. I also posted this on SD to see if they have any ideas. My instincts tell me these were somehow already on the card eventhough I know the packing was not tampered with. IDK if I should format the card and wipe my phone just to be safe. I already changed my passwords.

I ran malwarebytes on the pics once they were on my computer. I also did full system scans on my computer in safe mode, so the computer seems fine. (And I have not hooked my phone up to my computer since then.) I'm not sure how to run it on my phone though.

EDIT: Ok, it seems they have a mobile version on google play. DOH! Yeah I'll download and run malwarebytes via wifi today at target or mcdolalds. Thanks for the help everyone!

ps: i already did the reset, but I am going to encrypt the phone and the storage cards this time around.

If this didn't start until you got the sd card, why not just exchange it for another one?
That's what I was going to do, but I paid in points and used a coupon at kmart. It was a $10 off $20 with expiring points. It's actually less of a headache to do the reformatting. lol (plus since I am parnoid, I want to make sure everything is clean now.)

Best of luck man. If all else fails, return/exchange. Seems less of a hassle than stressing about it and reformatting everything/redownloading all your apps, settings, etc.

I did the reset, encrypted everything, downloaded malwarebytes, formatted, etc. Got that there was a problem with the sd card, redid everything...

Took test pics and uploaded, no mystery pics.

Took test pics again and uploaded, no mystery pics.

It looks like the problem is solved.  Thanks everyone for the input!

So the pics are back. New ones that relate to the world cup. I just downloaded "touch pal" swype keyboard and I am thinking it has to do with that.

Yikes!  You should maybe take the phone to your mobile carrier's store and see if they can help you.  There is always at least one guy there who really knows his stuff.  Good luck.
