Halo MC Collection info:

Halo: The Master Chief Collection inspires cynical thoughts at first, but from what I've seen it's one of the most comprehensive and smartly organized efforts in the realm of remakes. Here's everything you get in the package, and it all runs at 1080p, 60 frames per second, and approximately 17 covenant deaths per minute:

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

The first Halo has already been remade once in the Anniversary edition, which updated the Xbox's iconic first-person shooter as soon as it turned a creaky ten years old. Developed by Saber Interactive and Certain Affinity, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary kept the original engine running underneath, but brought in a modern look at the press of a button. The game also featured updated sound effects, a re-recorded soundtrack, enhanced cutscenes, and was faithful enough to still include "The Library," a level that people either love for being a Doom-like killing spree, or lament for being a slog through generic sci-fi corridors.

Halo 2: Anniversary

Halo 2 gets a little extra love in The Master Chief Collection, becoming an Anniversary edition with the help of Saber Interactive and Certain Affinity. As before, players can switch between the old game and the redone artwork and sound of the updated version (in a much faster transition). Halo 2's cutscenes have been completely redone by visual effects outfit Blur Studio – if you've been impressed by an elaborate CG trailer for a buzz-craving game, it was likely made by Blur.

Halo 2's multiplayer will appear "verbatim," Microsoft says, dual-wielding and obscure glitches intact. There will also be six completely remade maps, including fan-favorite "Ascension," but that's just a sliver of The Master Chief Collection's multiplayer suite.

Halo 3

The first time Master Chief's journey ended, it was in Halo 3. The first Xbox 360 game in the series isn't getting the same kind of overhaul as the original Xbox games, but it's being visually spruced up to better suit the collection's 1080p and 60 frames-per-second output. Halo 3 also marked the introduction of four-player co-op, which Microsoft expects to keep for The Master Chief Collection. Remember: the mantra is reproducing each game engine "verbatim."

Halo 4

Halo 4 represented the first major step for the franchise after Bungie's goodbye game, Halo: Reach. 343's game is getting a visual update, though being the most recent Halo game (2012) means it was sharp looking to begin with. Halo 4's multiplayer suite and the Spartan Ops co-op campaign will also be available in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

Halo 5 Beta

We don't really know much about Halo 5 yet, though fans with The Master Chief Collection will be the first to play it in a multiplayer beta, scheduled to start in December 2014.

Multiplayer and the interface that unlocks everything

Halo: The Master Chief Collection includes every multiplayer map and mode ever released for Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4 – making for over 100 maps. There's still delineation between games, however, as each map will run on the engine it was intended for. Halo 2 maps should still play and feel as they did in Halo 2, for example, and not like old maps running with the new rules of, say, Halo 4.

Rather than fiddling with different games and engines, The Master Chief Collection's overarching interface automatically loads up the right engine and game, depending on what bit of content you've selected. For this to make sense, 343 has smartly dispensed with the need to unlock or progress through the collection. Every campaign level and multiplayer map, across all four games, is available from the start.

Though you can play each Halo in linear fashion, 343 is including a helping of playlists that span different games. You can, for instance, play a string of back-to-back levels hinged on Halo's beastly vehicle, the Warthog, or play a set of the last four levels from each game.

As for multiplayer, you're able to set up custom online games composed of several maps and modes, no matter which game they belong to. When they load up, they'll be in the associated game's engine automatically.

Halo: Nightfall and the connection to Halo 5

Halo: The Master Chief Collection will grant owners access to a weekly live-action series called Halo: Nightfall. Produced by Ridley Scott, the show will examine a few characters that will play a larger role in Halo 5: Guardians. The collection itself will be further tied to Halo 5: Guardians with "book-end" cinematics, also done by Blur Studio.

The price of a Master Chief buffet

Master Chief's grand collection, his 4000-Gamerscore journey, will only be available in one package when it launches on November 11, 2014 for $59.99.

Looks really cool. There were a lot of things I liked about H4 but I hope they do something about the storytelling in the campaign. I felt like that game was actively trying to prevent me from understanding what was going on.

Always excited for a new Halo, just hope this one has more of a lasting effect. Once I got through the Halo 4 campaign I didn't go back to the game often for MP.

I'm interested in Halo 5, but I wouldn't buy an Xbox One just to play it...

Seriously. H4 had one of the most poorly-told stories in the series. I've heard that it makes more sense if one reads the Forerunner novels, but why should I have to know tie-in novel canon beforehand just to understand what's happening in the games (i.e., the main series)?

You're being too kind. I thought H4 sucked. The campaign was so tedious, and enemy encounters were predictable and felt like a grind. Only liked a couple of maps in multiplayer; didn't have the fun factor of H3. Spartan Ops I did kind of enjoy (though it wasn't without its flaws either) and wished they had continued beyond season 1; the cutscenes/cinematics for Spartan Ops were very nice.

Won't get excited about H5 until I see some gameplay footage.

Halo 2 Anniversary might be another title besides Mass Effect 4 that pushes me to get a XB1.   Assuming they do it right, of course.

Yeah the best way to figure out all the story in Halo 4 was to find all the secret video terminals but I agree they should have fleshed out the story a bit better.

I can't wait for Halo 2 Anv & Halo 5. I played Halo 4 a lot, enjoyed the campaign (dat end) and messed around a lot with the Spartan Ops, daily/weekly challenges and of course the online multiplayer. I think it's good news Halo 5 is officially 2015, gives them time to do it right and not feel threatened to release soon due to the competition's scheduled pattern.

60fps isn't Halo. :/ Yeah yeah, "more smooth" but 60 just gives me headaches (literally).

Microsoft chasing the CoDies but CoD levels are really tight to keep 60. Halo needs scale to fit half-a-dozen vehicles. Plus 30fps console games are just prettier than 60.

On Twitter a dude from 343 said that new character is a *NEW* character.....not Palmer and not Cortana.

I'm always excited for a new, true Halo game.  So, I'm stoked for this and even more stoked for Halo 2 Ann this fall.  I really hope the LE rumor is true, which supposedly comes with H3 and H4 for the X1 in a big bundle.

lol I just came in here to post that. Ya if that H2A bundle is true, I would be a really happy camper. I'm sure it would be just the campaigns but I would be fine with that.

Yeah, I was thinking about that.  Wondering if they really would invest in servers for 3 and 4?  I'm not much of a Halo MP guy, so just the campaigns would be perfectly fine for me.  I wouldn't even expect them to be HD or whatever the new "fancy upgrade" acronym will be.  Just having the games playable on the X1.....'specially with achievements....would be frickin great.  :whee:

Here's a link to IGN with more info on the rumor:

Was just about to post the very same thing from Engadget:

http://www.engadget.com/2014/05/16/halo-the-master-chief-collection/

Halo 1 - 4 on the X1 would be an interesting reason to get a X1. Oh snap. :whee:

I already have an X1 but if this rumor is true I think all my college friends will be upgrading as well. It would be nice to get the old crew together.
I think there were lots of Halo 2 players from the OG Xbox days and if they brought it to the X1, it might bring more than a few sales of X1s.

They just need to wrap it up in a nice steelbook package and we're good. Maybe make H3 ODST and Halo Reach available later via digital download.

All I'm wanting is Halo 2. They could literally 'copy and paste' it onto the Xbox One and I'd be HAPPY as hell. Just a port. Interesting to see. Can't wait till E3

Personally I'm stoked for this.  Primarily Halo 2 as that is the one most in need of an "upgrade".  But the idea of playing through all 4 campaigns on my X1 is pretty enticing and if they can work out some good MP even better.

A couple posts up, someone from 343 said it's a new character.
Yeah, MS already confirmed it wasn't her specifically, so that pretty much means it's her. They turned humans into data in 4, they'll turn Cortana into a human in 5. Think about it, there's no other character they'd give billing over Chief. The armor looks female and the visor is blue. It all adds up IMO.

It's definitely possible but Josh Holmes said he's a new character to the game. So unless the story changes between now and release, I would say it has to be a Spartan hunting/tracking MC down. Hopefully they elaborate on it at e3.

Holmes also said that is not the final cover art.

Am I the only one who doesn't absolutely love Halo 2? I mean, it's great and all, but the story is the worst of the three, which is a big thing for me. I got into Halo for the story and the universe, and 2's does not interest me at all. Granted, I'd play through it again if it's remade in a bundle, but I'd be more excited for 1, 3, and 4.

Halo 2 is known for its iconic MP. It single handily made XBL viable. It was COD before COD.

Yes, I know that. I'm a gamer that would pass over MP for single player (hello, Titanfall) so Halo 2 isn't something I get all hyped up about. That's not to say I don't like playing MP -- I spent days on Gears 2 and 3 online -- I would just rather have a fantastic single player.

Well in that case, here are the single player campaign rankings:

1) Halo Reach

  • The best story, pacing and level design in the series. Excellent soundtrack. Bungie's magnum opus...until Destiny.
2) Halo ODST

  • A personal favorite. You play as a regular human (ie not Master Chief) which completely changes the dynamics of the game. You appreciate the perils of the Halo universe on a completely different level. A beautiful jazz influenced soundtrack makes ODST a true gem.
3) Halo 3

  • Arguably the best Halo single player experience depending how you feel about the flood level (Cortana).
4) Halo CE

  • The game that started it all. My friends and I easily put in 100s of hours. A staple in high school, college and even today. But not without its faults. Ugh that Library level... just ugh.
5) Halo 4

  • A very good game that never reaches the same heights as previous games in the series but it does a good job avoiding some of the lows as well.
6) Halo 2

  • Story started out great and went to shit pretty quickly. However, the multiplayer was excellent. There was nothing like it on consoles at the time. Hundreds if not thousands of hours were spend playing Halo 2 MP.

Snipers on Blood Gulch.

Or...

Online Warthog Jumping
(TONS of "Xbox Record That" to come)
Super jumping on Sanctuary...

Oh the memories. IF they do a Halo 2 Anniversary without multiplayer like they did for Halo CE I'll be pissed.

They have to include MP otherwise it's not Halo 2. I can't wait to revisit Lockout, Ascension and Ivory Tower.

Halo 2 will def have multiplayer but would they come out with Halo 3 and Halo 4 multiplayer on Xbox One? I'd hazard a guess they'd consolidate all the maps into one Halo 2 multiplayer kind of portal.

That's gonna be a sweet, free copy of Halo 5 Trak. Tell your Mom thanks in advance for me.

They've said it's a "he"

So big ass news reveal.

Game will be Halo 1,2,3, &4 for $60.
Beta for Halo 5 & includes Nightfall (TV series)
All the Halo maps available for multiplayer.
Halo 2 gets the Halo Aniv makeover (switchable engine feature like H1 Aniv) as well. Original H2 multiplayer is in tact.
Every level is unlocked from the beginning, allowing custom playlist that can range from either game in the Master Chief Collection.
Blur is redoing H2's cinematics! (They did the beautiful Halo War's cutscenes)

EVERYTHING about that Halo Collection package is freaking amazing.  For $60?  Forget it.  That is a perfect package and fan service all the way.  I never expected they'd do MP for these games, let alone Halo 1.  This blows me away and is an immediate insta-purchase.

By the way, Gamestop and Amazon have retailer exclusive skull DLC preorder bonuses.

That's lame. I don't think the Anniversary Edition Grunt Birthday Party Skull ever came to the Marketplace. I know that one came with some copies of the game, and was not retailer specific, but the skulls make the games more replayable, and removing things like that isn't ideal.
