I've been waiting for this deal to come back around.  Best Buy will be running a half-off their Gamers Club Unlocked membership from 5/25 - 5/31.  It's normally $119.99 and will be on sale for $60.  They run this promo every once in a while and it makes the membership worthwhile.

Assuming Best Buy is still around for 2 years, here's what you'll get:

Gamers Club Unlocked Benefits:
Get 20% off new video games for 2 full years
Get 2x base points on new video game software, digital content, and game accessories
Get 2 points for every dollar when you trade-in games
Get points on gaming consoles
Redeem Reward Certificates on nearly everything at Best Buy
10% bonus trade-in credit on your video game software trade-ins
10% off pre-owned games
Buy two, get the third free on pre-owned games via special welcome coupon
Save 50% on a new strategy guide via special welcome coupon

I'm still not sure what's going on with their magazine but I assume if it's still being posted digitally, it would probably be included also.

Its hard to convince friends to buy this sub. Most are just broke or dont want to shell out 60 for it. Thats fine. Keep buying games from Gamestop for 60 after you traded in games for peanuts

you could just have them give you the money for the games, and you reap the reward points for buying it for them and they get new games 20% off, why convince them when you can get more benefits.

except if he has more then two friends it wouldn't work since you are limited to only 3 Copies of each game regardless of platform unless he want his account to get banned.

I'll once again look for the GHU cards or SKU. My best buy didn't have the cards last time. Also, employees were clueless about the program or even how to sign me up on their registers.

You have to keep in mind, not all gamers need to have a game the day it's released.  GCU gets you $12 off a $60 game.  If you can wait 2-3 months you can usually get game for ~$40, wait another month or two and you can probably get it for ~$30.  I usually only buy 1-2 games a year @ $60, the rest I wait until they get down to $30-40, so GCU wouldn't save me any money.  (not trying to be standoffish, just offering a different perspective)

Selling on Amazon as Gaming Cheaply

Please feel free to PM me if there is a game you want to purchase cheaper than Amazon Warehouse or Gamestop.

Lol they should just drop it to $60 permanently. They're obviously not getting the numbers they want or they wouldn't keep discounting it.

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like Im extending mine another 2 years. I was lucky and got rolled over when they first introduced this. It has already paid for itself, not including teh hiccups they had a week or so ago with the buy 1 get one 50 and still applied the GCU discount.

If anyone is on the fence this is a no brainier. Get up on this while you can.

Games can be found for like $20 3 months after release unless it's a first party Nintendo title. I've always thought paying $60 for the "right" to feel like you have to buy all ur games from 1 place is a joke.

I don't know...I'm not a sucker and only drop $60 new on one game or maybe 2 each year.

b/c of a GCU special and the TIVs (on TR:DE), I got paid ~$20 to play Infamous: Second Son for the month i kept it. Enough to beat it, 100% the playthrough, and realize i didnt want to plat by playing evil run.

If you like to play games on release, and are ok with trading in those games within a 1-3months of release, you can easily break even or even gain a few bucks with GCU. if there are more of the (so far frequent) bundle and trade specials, you can actually accumulate enough credit to get games for free w/o too much extra effort (i hate driving all around, so this is just a few trips). bought Watch_Dogs on credit, and still have $30+ sitting around just waiting. soon to be $40+ b/c of watch dogs rebate bonus.

If you are a collector and want to keep games forever, this doesn't work as well, although you still get the discounts. I used to just buy 2-3 games a year (new) and bought the rest after they were cheap. but with GCU, i get them day 1, break even or make a few bucks, and move on to the next new release.

i actually think they are using some psych-out. they know $60 is the right price, but bouncing it between 120 and 60 gets people to jump on it when it drops in price, rather than leaving it at 60 all the time, then you have time to think about it

its not worth it for everyone, but if you use it right (w/o abusing it), it's great at $60/2years.

also even when it does start it will not be online. You have to go into a physical store to sign up next week. There no way to sign up online

And you enjoy being stuck paying for the privilege of buying from  just one retailer while I'll get deals from everywhere.  Sure, it's worthwhile if you buy a bunch of Day 1 games.... but this is CAG, and everyone knows the first rule of saving money on any release is to wait a few months.

Maybe if BB would apply GCU on top of pricematches from Amazon/Target or even *shudder* Newegg...

while also applying GCU after matching deals like the recent K-Mart Mario Kart 8 preorder deal...

AND also applied GCU savings to accessories/movies/CD's (if not hardware)....

then I would see the benefit.  But it doesn't do any of that, does it?  And aren't they starting to run deals (like the recent B1G1 50%) that don't even let you utilize your GCU?

As far as Best Buy goes, I've found myself buying games from them less and less, but aside from the occasional Amazon deal I buy virtually all my movies from them.  If GCU were extended to save you money on movies that $60 for 2 years would become a much more attractive option.  I suppose if I wanted to be an unscrupulous flipper I could get some benefit as well, but I was born with a soul....

As much as I shit on Prime, especially after the recent price increase, at least it gets me a streaming service (with plenty of items that don't overlap with Netflix, such as the HBO programming).  So even if I'm not saving the money I put into it I'm still getting something worthwhile out of it.  I can't even come close to justifying a Best Buy GCU membership for myself at anything over $20 or so, not unless they greatly broaden what it's good for or enter the streaming arena themselves.

Interested in trading Steam Games. I have extra keys for Ship, Machinarium, Sword and Sworcery, Cave Story +, and more Desura games tha I can list ;)

PM me to add me to PSN, Steam, WiiU, or 3DS. Always up for a Brawl matchup too!

that would mean a $48 saving alone from the GCU. meaning another $12 and your membership was worth it, which you could easily get if you buy a couple more games even ones already on sale.

for $120 it sucks but $60 is totally worth it for 2 years of this.

Had GCU  since it was $60 in March. Definitely got my $60 worth after that B1G1 Titanfall Collector's edition sale Best Buy accidentally had...
