CAGiversary!

I used to have a thread similar to this but I'm unable to find it and it was old so I guess I will create another one.

I'm doing over nights for the rest of the week so I'm working 10pm-6am and I get very bored during this time because once I'm finished doing my job I just wait for the project team to get done with their job.

So if anyone has any questions about BestBuy or really anything just ask.

I'm mainly making this thread as people tend to have questions but no one to answer them and I've found out the threads that I'm normally active on are dead during these hours.

Some talking points to get people started if they want to talk about things.

1. I love the Sega Genesis

2. Kights of the Old Republic is my favorite game ever

3. ....nope that's all I got

edit

4. I just bought Transistor two days ago and man that game is good

What are some great obscure Genesis games?Buying up vertical shooters and games I haven't played for the Retron 5.

Just to make sure we are talking about the same type of game. The first thing that came to mind is Truxton.

Edit:

It's not on Sega (that I'm aware of) but on the NES Tiger Heli is a hell of a game.

I only knew of one bestbuy manager that read CAG but he no longer works with the company.

I'm not sure how bestbuy steals money but they are horrible at raises. I've known people that have worked here for 5+ years get paid less than people that just started that have no job experience. Maybe that is stealing money?

are they going to bring back the gamers unlocked magazine  monthly coupons?

You should ask if they are going to bring back that trade and save dvd program.

I really miss the old media section set up. I could find pretty much anything I want within 2 mins...now it takes me fucking 10 mins to find something that's usually blended in somewhere else...not to mention that if something is not in the ad but I know BB is getting it, most likely I have to have an employee pull it from the back.

All BestBuys (unless the GM said no) have a third party called Anderson that does all movies and music. They come in early in the morning and leave around 2-4 so if there is only one person dedicated to it some movies and music never get put to the floor or they hardly do. I know in my store it's an issue where new movies after the release day will be stuck in the back for a few days.

The movie trade-in thing happens at random times. I think I've only seen it happen twice in the past year or two so I'm not sure what starts it. I can ask some people to see if they know of anything coming up though.

If I recall correctly there are still coupons just not in physical form as they moved everything to being digital. If you log-in to the reward zone site you should see coupons and such there.

With all that I agree the new media is horrible. My movie section used to be great and now it seems we only sell "popular" shows and anything that I used to find that was a little off-the-wall is online only. I came across the movie Manborg before the change and bought it just based on the cover alone and I know with the new setup that will never happen again.

does best buy management read CAG and say "boy, so and so is a fucking idiot"?
lol

Why are Best Buy employees dense?

I no longer work in gaming but I can't say I remember anything about extra months. Depending on when it was promised I would call the number on the back of your card. If they promised it and never did it but you waited a year to do anything I would think maybe they would be less likely to do it.

So was working Midnight launch shifts mandatory or did you get paid extra?  What ever happened to the awesome launch events that you guys use to have?  I remembered when the Star Wars Trilogy DVD's came out, they had some serious shit like pizza, music, area where you could play battlefront 1 and so on.  Now when you go there before midnight all they have is some balloons and 20 employees standing around doing NOTHING but trying to sell you extra shit you don't need.  By the time it was time to check out, it still took like 20 mins for an employee to look up your pre-order and apply it to your purchase.  What a waste of time.

Midnight launch is mandatory for some if enough people don't want to work it. So for the Xbox One launch we had actually put people on the schedule to work it because only 3-4 wanted to. There is no extra pay.

From what I know any events are up to the GM of the specific store but corporate does dictate who does midnight launches. Some stores might be able to do one even if they are not but I've never known one to do so. On the new console launch my store had some gaming business come out with a huge trailer and let people play any games they want in it. It was a mini arcade in a truck.

Odds are you see some employees just standing around because they don't want to be there but had to be because not enough people wanted to work it. They are also told to talk to you about the protection plan and an extra controller. No one wants to do that but the boss is usually around so they have to follow orders.

is bestbuy going to do another summer blowout /clearance sale for video games?
Usually when things like this happen the store is the last people to know. They announce it online or it gets leaked from the higher ups before we get signs or ads saying anything is going down. I do know all stores have a tracking sheet of what has not sold in X amount of time and based on that things will go on clearance then EOL (end of life) where it gets pulled and sent back. Depending on your store the people that are meant to work the EOL might be nice like myself and keep items out where they keep going down or they could send them back as soon as possible so they don't really hit a low clearance price.

Edit:

A easy way to see clearance items for a store or a specific area is to just google "bestbuy *area*" such as "bestbuy dallas" click the first link and go to the clearance and open item tab.

Wow. From what the employees tell me is that the "publisher" is the one who sets up these events and they are the one's who dictate which store does a midnight launch. During the black ops 2 launch , they had some weird reps (some ladies who don't play video games and don't know what black ops 2 is about yet was there to promote it) giving out free 160msp cards. At the MW3 midnight launch they gave out chips and drinks until this one huge ass rep decided to sit on the small cooler claiming the rest of the drinks for himself. I clearly remembered that was the launch when they were trying to push for that small ass 3d tv from Sony, which eventually went down to less than 100 bucks sometime last year I think and it started at 400.

Glad someone was able to clear up their bullshit.

Final question for tonight... Magnolia vs BB stuff.....who gives you the better deal when buying a new entertainment system (tv, sound system, etc)?

For some stores I wouldn't doubt that some publishers have the power and money to throw an event at a BestBuy. At higher volume stores it's possible that is how it works but at my store we throw our own events.

My store does not have a Magnolia section in it so I've never looked at their selection but deal wise we get way more off of BestBuy brands. I will say some of those very high dollar Magnolia HDMI cables are not worth the asking price if my cost is any indication.

In the stores I've been in almost none of them have been true. Some of the broader ones sure such as the cute cashier but those are broad and bound to happen. Our AP is a small 60yr old guy...

To get on a stores good side I don't know but if there is a specific section if you shop often enough and don't come off as weird that's easy. When I worked in gaming I got along with a few regulars and we just talked about games.

So last week there was a promo where if you pre-order and buy a certain movie from the list you get an extra 100 reward points.  Went to the store the other day and no one could find the pre-order cards to do this.  The employee had to search the bb web site and did the order online however she fucked up and instead of instore pick up , she did ship to home...So I had to wait for it, then go back to the store to swap it out  for the steelbook version which was suppose to be on hold by the manager which wasn't.

What the hell happened?  It seems that one particular store does not know how to do pre-orders and pick up processing (for example taking off 5 dollars from the amount due to downpayment), yet the other store can do it just fine.

I can only speak for my store on this but we only get pre-order cards for certain movies such as Hunger Games and Frozen. Most movies don't sell out of stock so we don't pre-order them in-store. I've always known this of being a online only thing so odds are if you went in your store asking for a card they got confused thinking they should have a card or something but you would just have to do it online anyways.

What do you do at Best Buy working overnight?
I do overnights with a manager when the project team is there changing the store around. So this time they were changing the layout of Home Theater but because they are not employees of the store a manager has to be there and I decided to do the overnights with that manager.

I personally just fixed things that needed to be fixed and cleaned the warehouse.
