Narrowing down a headset

I've been wanting to buy a gaming headset since with summer upon us the AC is running constantly and is difficult to hear the game audio over the noise. It would also be useful at night when the other members of the household are asleep. Previous attempts at buying a gaming headset did not go too well.

If only the gaming division of Skullcandy weren't separate otherwise I could use the warranty credit from earphones to offset the cost of the PLYR headset.

My first consideration was the Tritton Warhead because of its unique feature of having wireless chat without needing a wireless bluetooth puck like the Turtle Beach headsets. This was good because sometimes I like to race with the speed wheel which does not have a headset port and the Cronus MAX controller adapter which does not pass chat audio. The downside is the headset does not have a wired audio connector to fallback to. For the PS3 I would have to tape a bluetooth to the boom and have the chat audio mixed in with the game audio negating the on-board headset controls. I could also buy a kinect and use that as a mic. Since game audio will be coming through the headset then there should be no problems with echo. I'm more of a PS3 gamer anyways though that also brings some other considerations.

As an impulse purchase I almost bought a Tritton Primer to at least have something in a better than nothing situation but the order at the Microsoft store kept failing despite my PayPal having more than enough balance to pay for the headset. By the time I figured out how to delete and re-enter my PayPal account the headset sold out again never to be restocked until the price returned to normal.

Recently I saw woot.com selling Turtle Beach Headsets but there was a copious amount of options that I couldn't decide which one. Here are a few features I would like the headset to have.

*USB Powered

The power strip where everything is plugged in is full and has no available slots so I'd like the base to plug into the console for power. It is also useful as I could make the headset portable by connecting the usb port of the receiver to a usb battery.

*Optical Audio

From my experience the analog audio outputs have a buzzing sound at higher volumes on my TV. On a headset this buzzing could distract especially in quieter stealth sequences. Since Optical Audio is digital the risk of audio interference is negated.

*USB chat audio

I have heard that the bluetooth connection for chat audio is of lower quality and the added convenience of USB is I could connect the headset to a PC and have audio and chat at the same time.

These three criteria are what I would want in a Turtle Beach headset or any other brand that can be recommended to me.
