SONY PS2 40GB Hard Disk Drive SCPH-20401 USED

Can this be used on a slim PS2 or is this only for the original / phat models.  Not sure if this talk is allowed, but I would like to save some shelf space and run *MY* PS2 games off a hard drive if possible.  Already have a modded memory card.  

 
Looks like a regular 40GB IDE/PATA HDD. A lot of people used 80GB, but it is said that the max is 137GB (which is 160GB after formatting). The original units had the bays inside that could fit these. Slim units don't have the physical capacity, but they do carry USB ports. You can get a slim PS2 modded to read USB hard drives, if you can find those who still perform the service after all these years.
