Militarization and Privatization of the Police

I thought heavy military weapons for some podunk town in Wisconsin and New Hampshire were excessive enough, but now in Massachusetts, SWAT teams are not considered government employees, rather private military corporations.  And like any patriotic PMCs, they don't need any big government breathing down their necks. We've already privatized a good deal of the prisons, and why not the people who are to representatives of law and order?

One has to wonder... if they're going to claim that they're a private corporation, it seems that might leave them open to things that a police force might have protections against.

I wonder if this declaration might open them up to some lawsuits here and there.

But it might go to arbitration, since that's become very popular these days.

Since that's something that both parties have to agree to, I think it'd be unlikely. It's not like you generally sign a contract before the SWAT Team knocks down your front door.

I think you'd see more consequences for excessive force and peharps more cases would be deemed "wrongful death" if they privatize then stay public.

In Maine all police shooting investigations are done by the attorney general (in house) and surprise surprise every single shooting has been justified... every single one. And we've had unarmed civilians in wheelchairs shot.

On the other side of the coin, does this give everyone the right to start their own private company that is a SWAT team?

If so, I am in.

While you liberals and right nuts jobs fight over gays marriage, religion, abortions, and other stupid shit that the gov't should HAVE NO PLACE OR POWER over, you continue to give the gov't more and more power to interfer with your life.  And the ultimate outcome is police/military FORCE.

The gov't will have one power that neither you nor your neighbor will ever have the power TO FORCE AND USE FORCE to gets its way. 

The gov't has long left protecting the rights of everyone justly and instead went to using FORCE and THREATS to maintain order.
