Was looking for a thread for this but didn't see one. So I figured I'd start one.

A TRULY OPEN UNIVERSE
Whether a distant mountain or a planet hanging low on the horizon, you can go there. You can fly seamlessly from the surface of a planet to another, and every star in the sky is a sun that you can visit.
Where you’ll go and how fast you’ll make your way through this universe is up to you. It’s yours for the taking.

EXPLORATION IS SEEING THINGS NO ONE HAS EVER SEEN BEFORE
Explore uncharted solar systems and catalogue unique new forms of life. Every planet’s landscape is different from the next, and populated by species never before encountered.
Find ancient artefacts that could reveal the secrets behind the universe.
Choose whether to share your discoveries with other players. They’re exploring the same vast universe in parallel; perhaps you’ll make your mark on their worlds as well as your own.

SURVIVE ON A DANGEROUS FRONTIER
Every solar system, planet, ocean and cave is filled with danger, and you are vulnerable.
Your ship and suit are fragile, and every encounter can test your skills to the limit. From dogfighting in space to firstperson combat on a planet’s surface, you will face foes ready to overwhelm you.
And one mistake could see you lose everything. In No Man’s Sky, every victory and every defeat has lasting consequences.

BUILD FOR AN EPIC JOURNEY
Whether you want to explore and see things never before discovered, or directly set course for the centre of the galaxy, how you play No Man’s Sky is up to you.
But you cannot take your voyage lightly. You’ll need to prepare.
Collect precious resources on the surfaces of planets and trade them for the ships, suits and equipment that will take you to your destiny in the stars.

Surprised no one created a thread for this yet. Either way, I cannot wait to play this. Just waiting for a release date and a price. I don't think they will go full retail $60, but I could see them going $40-50. We'll see. All I know is that this game will sell amazingly well.

Game looks great and seems interesting. I need to know more about the gameplay and whether there's a purpose beyond exploration though. I tend to get bored with games fast if there's not some plot/objective to keep me going.

On paper, this game seems incredible. I'm pretty damn skeptical about the concept of a truly perpetual world but I guess only time well tell.

Additionally, Sony should have locked this game up as a system exclusive (at least for a couple of years). This game easily be what Geometry Wars was to the 360.

There's a video on the PS Blog, Sean said that there is another purpose to the game. It's a pretty good video, I recommend anyone checking it out.

Anyways he says, there's a reason to try to go to the center of the galaxy. And that everyone starts on the outer side of the galaxy. He also said that most people wont even make it to the center but if you do there's a whole other game to be played.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Would like to know that other purpose being talked about. That center of the galaxy talk sounds like a cool idea, but if most people don't get there, that's a shame. I can just see the poorly written (not talking about score) reviews now.

For me, I probably won't get to the center. I am thoroughly looking forward to the exploration aspects of the game. This is exactly what I've wanted in a sci-fi exploration game.

I'm very interested, but reserving judgement and dollars until I read some reviews. What's the release timeframe, have they said?

Add me to the list of intrigued on how the perpetual world will actually be executed.  But if they are able to pull it off, then it will definitely be something very special.  Will be keeping an eye out as we get more updates.

Day one for sure.

I think No Man's Sky is heavily influenced by hard sci-fi and Star Trek. It embodies the Star Trek mantra to a T, "Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

If the worlds are unique enough and there is ample lore, I could see it being a runaway hit. I hope they deliver. This is the closest we have come to a hard sci-fi game that focuses on exploration of the galaxy rather than the typical space opera where the main character is tasked with saving the galaxy.

They go into a bit more detail than what we saw from E3:

They've already spoiled what's in the center of the galaxy.

It's a baggie full of dirt with the word puto written on it in magic marker.

I wonder if this is a game where people will shoot on sight.

If they really want people to be peaceful traders or explorers or whatever, there has to be a penalty for indiscriminately killing other people. Does this universe have laws or anything?

Maybe this is what bounty hunters are for.

If something like this were in place, I could be ok with it: Killing people makes the bounty on your head rise incrementally or exponentially . Killing someone with a bounty on their head not only gives rewards, but does not include the kill penalty on you.

That sounds like it would be amazing and work really well.

With GamesCom coming up soon hopefully we get an update and more info on the game. I'm hoping for a release date for this and Everyone's Gone to the Rapture.

Yeah this is one game I really want to have a shot at. It looks like a lot of fun and it just looks so diffeent and I like different these days.
