So being an Ouya owner, I got an e-mail about this.

I think this is subscription based like Playstation Plus and XBox Games with Gold (for XBox One).

Not subscription based. See post below:

It's not a subscription. It just makes any items that you can purchase, like game unlocks and add-ons, under $30 cost $0.00, so you have to do the work to still purchase the items you want for free. In-app purchases that are for things like multipliers and extra lives aren't covered by it. It's effectively unlimited credit to purchase pretty much whatever you want that works for the next 12 months.

For $60/year, you can get access to full game downloads and DLC (not IAP which you can level up quickly, buy gold, etc.) like Broken Age and Towerfall: Ascension.

Might be a good deal to some but who knows, might be hated. Just posting this to see if this is a good deal for other Ouya owners. I myself would try this.

http://shop.ouya.tv/... 1 Current User

Fine Print Below the webpage: *The OUYA All-Access pass applies to one-time purchases under $30, such as full game unlocks and level-pack add-ons. In-game purchases that enhance gameplay, and that can be done more than once, such as extra lives, potions, power-ups, etc, are not included. OUYA reserves the right to remove from the Marketplace any game or gamer that we feel is abusing the system during the duration of this program. Non-refundable.

$60/year seems a little ridiculous for the quality of stuff on the OUYA.  I own one, but haven't turned it on in about a year, and have only played one game on it.  Most of it's use has been an XBMC player, which it handled well.  Either way, thanks for posting!

The cool thing about Ouya is that if you don't download anything for a while, the company will randomly send you a $5 "we miss you" credit. This has happened to me twice since December. I just redeemed one of those codes yesterday as a matter of fact.

I'm not sure who this program is targeting, because I would assume that the majority of Ouya owners also own at least one of the big 3 as well.  I would think that their sub money would go to one of those systems instead.

I assume you would be required to maintain your sub in order to keep said games.  I'd also be very curious as to what they define as a user "abusing the system" when the system is "access to all games for $60."

It is interesting, and I'd like to see how well it does for them.

Yeah but a 10 year old laptop can do everything ouya can and a thousand other things. My phone can do what it does and a lot more, I can even video out to a tv for games and use Bluetooth controllers on it. And if indie games make it a winner it cant even begin to compete with a pc or emulators for that matter.

Ouya is basically just a waste of money because you just buy a box that does a hell of a lot than a dozen other devices can do, can do more, and can do better.

I kickstarted that thing and luckily I sold it on ebay and made my money back before people started realizing it was useless.

I cant imagine who would throw 60 dollars at it to unlock content. 60 bucks on steam would go a lot further for a much larger library that again can be played on a tv if you wish.

Its like saying "that new 2014 Toyota is 18000 dollars but hell ill buy this car from Korea that gets half the gas mileage, no ac, and has a max speed of 55mph because it costs 2000 dollars less and it comes from a shitty no name company so it has to be cool!"

If anyone signs up for this - make sure to download as much as you can. The cool thing is the games won't cost you a dime but OUYA will still pay out the full game cost to devs (download Saturday Morning RPG ;)).

Not so sure about this.  Several Ouya developers have posted on forums and Twitter that they were never informed about this new program and aren't sure if and how they will be compensated if their games are downloaded under this program.

Is it a good or bad thing for developers? I see that you are one and have no problem with Ouya doing this. However, the maker of Thomas was Alone is not happy about it and tweeted about his frustration.

Based on your comments, your analogy should read more like "it's like why buy a 2014 Toyota when I can buy a 10 year old Ford that will get me from point A to B. Even my Ferrari can do what it does and a lot more. And if muscle is what you need just buy a 70' Chevelle SS 454."
;)
But seriously I pretty much agree with what you said

Really wish they made the All Access Pass purchasable through the Ouya using store credit. Kinda sucks to be sitting on $68 in credit from purchasing credit codes when Target was having their $10 for $8 deal and then seeing this awesome deal appear.

Damn. And I thought having $20 sitting in wait on my Ouya account was a lot. I only bought one $10 card from that sale, and I just redeemed it last night. I'd have a hard time trying to spend all that on the Ouya store, but if I did, I'd finally buy Final Fantasy III and Towerfall, two of the more expensive purchases on their store that I've been waiting to drop in price.

Heh, ya I kinda went overboard on the codes but I did it because I thought more big titles would come to the system since they did away with the required demo rule for selling on the Discover store and also because of the supposed Ouya 2 that is in the works.

This would be pretty sweet if you're a new buyer of an OUYA system. I don't think there's $60 worth of stuff that I DON'T already own though, so I'll pass for now.

But for a new buyer, there's a good selection of games IMO. I'd recommend checking these out for anyone curious about OUYA:

Another World

The Ball

The Bard's Tale

The Cave

Chess II: The Sequel (yes, really)

Final Fantasy III

Hero of Many

Killing Floor Calamity

Knightmare Tower

Meltdown

Raiden triple pack (whatever it's called)

Ravensword

Reaper

Saturday Morning RPG

Sonic CD

Sonic 4 (both episodes)

If anyone signs up for this - make sure to download as much as you can. The cool thing is the games won't cost you a dime but OUYA will still pay out the full game cost to devs (download Saturday Morning RPG ;)).

I just bought that 2 days ago. =)

They sent out emails to devs explicitly stating that we'd be fully compensated for any and all unlocks gained from the promotion. Not sure how the other devs missed that. It's an awesome opportunity for devs and players - the only people who lose are OUYA (since they could end up paying out thousands of dollars over what they take in).

I was a kickstarter backer who found himself horribly underwhelmed by the Ouya, and I got rid of my unit not long after buying it and, thankfully, recouped most of my money.

Those who argue that it's an emulation station + indie box are technically correct, but what they fail to realize is that one can set up a much more capable game station with a used laptop that has an HDMI port, an Xbox 360 controller, a steam account and some emulators. (And then, at least they'll have a controller that works well!)

As for this promotion... it's a pretty desparate way to try to build a userbase, and I have a feeling it will cost Ouya much more than it brings in if they're paying out devolopers fully for every download. If this promo allows gamers to have "all you can eat" downloads for a full year, they only need to download 10-15 of the more popular games before they are forcing Ouya to pay out more than it's taking in per user. That's not an unthinkable situation given how bite-sized most of the games are, and it's likely many users will strive to take advantage of the deal and download as much as possible.

All I can say is that Ouya's venture capitalists must be pretty forgiving. Julie Uhrman and her team continue to make baffling mistakes that suggest they're more interested in being liked than in keeping their business sustainable, and it's going to surprise no one when they suddenly run out of funding and have to either find a buyer to acquire them or close their doors.

As a CAG, though, I wholeheartedly support Ouya gamers taking advantage of the system while it's in place... especially if you get to keep the games forever!

Ouya probably has a ton of money leftover from the kickstarter. Gotta use it somehow.

I don't want to turn this into a thing, but I don't understand why mr_hat and secularsage find it necessary to turn an Ouya deal thread into an anti-Ouya thread. I feel bad for the Kickstarter backers since it seems a lot of them got burned, but I don't see any reason why it would be necessary to declare the console a bad buy to those of us who already own one that we plan to keep. But I guess the same thing happens in every Wii U thread - people declare it a failure and then proceed to tell everyone in the thread who own it that they made a bad purchase. At this point, those of us who have an Ouya might still use it from time to time. So, even though I won't take advantage of this deal, I commend the OP for bringing it to everyone's attention.

I've always wondered, given how they made 10x what they asked for... what did they spend all of that money on? I know they had tons of promotions for cheaper (like subsidized) games and free credit and whatnot, but I still get the feeling that the Ouya team is probably just sitting on that leftover cash.

I didn't know the Ouya team was obligated to consult every dev who ever put a game on their version of Android  :???: It's not like the man isn't still getting paid in full, the only thing that could possibly change for him is the potential for more "sales".

This sounds like it has the potential to be a really great deal.  If I had enough free time to actually play the Ouya I'd certainly consider this deal, sounds great for anybody who hasn't bought into the system yet.  Hell, I know of $50 in games I'm interested in right off the bat.

I have to ask though.... WTF on Ouya costs over $30?

As someone who kickstarted it, used it once and never again, this may be the thing I need to get back into using it. $60 for over 800 games is pretty awesome.  The games may not be the same quality of games given with PS+, but hey, I can kill a lot more time with 800 games that I probably could with the 2-6 a month that PS+ gives.
