Skyfall isn't on sale. Only up to Quantum of Solace. The only exception in Skyfall's favor goes through a third-party on Amazon for $7 (for Blu/DVD/DC).

The Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace on sale are Blu only (and are part of MGM re-release, so they have a commemorative cover). There do exist a Blu/DVD combination of each that price themselves a bit higher, so if you want a jumping point between the formats, better to wait.

I need to go to store to check it out myself. On the website, they use the older art cover on some of them. I need the 50th anniversary repackaging art to complete my set.

There is a wingstack box advertising the Bond Blus, and all the pre-Craig movies use their classic posters.

Almost want to double dip but I bought most of these on dvds already, and I've found is less rewatchable than I thought.  Thunderball though might be worth another dip.

OK, someone who is a bond nut do me a favor here.

I've only really seen the Brosnan/Craig era movies. I know I don't want to buy every film but what are the "Must Haves" that have held up well that I should get?

Generally you can't go wrong with :

Goldfinger - Usually considered to be tbe best/most popular, and the film that established what Bond is all about. From Russia with love is probably the more 'serious' Connery classic, though it might be a little dry for some.

On Her Majesty's secret service - Lazenby in the house - if you enjoyed the Craig films this is the closest thing to a Casino royale/Skyfall out of all the previous Bond films

The spy who loved me - This is his best and most straightforward, serious effort, but generally your tolerance for camp and silliness will dictate how much you can enjoy the Roger Moore era (see the Octopussy screenshot I put in a post above for an example)

The Living daylights - Again if you've enjoyed the Daniel Craig films you should check out Timothy Dalton's two efforts for a more serious style of Bond. I prefer this one, though Licence to Kill is probably more gritty and hardcore.

Because I'm a rather sad individual, I bought all of the Bond blu-rays with the epic undertaking of reviewing every single one of them this summer. I've already written out a rough draft introductory blurb for each one, here's my opinions of the entire Bond saga:

1962 - Dr. No. Sean Connery NAILED Bond from the word go, still one of the most memorable movies

1963 - From Russia With Love. Nearly perfect, my pick for second best Bond movie

1964 - Goldfinger. Also virtually perfect, Sean Connery could do no wrong whatsoever at this point

1965 - Thunderball. Pure awesome! It's mind boggling they made so many great films on a yearly basis

1967 - You Only Live Twice. One of the rare Connery ones you can skip, he was tuning out at this point

1967 - Casino Royale. Not a real Bond movie, just a ridiculously bad parody that I refuse to watch again

1969 - On Her Majesty's Secret Service. The only George Lazenby Bond, this makes a strong case for the best written Bond until Craig stepped into the role

1971 - Diamonds Are Forever. Yeah... Connery never should have come back. You can't go home again

1973 - Live And Let Die. The first and only good Roger Moore movie, he quickly turned the franchise into goofy nonsense

1974 - The Man With The Golden Gun. Another lame Moore one, however Christopher Lee is EPICLY awesome here

1977 - The Spy Who Loved Me. This is actually a pretty decent one, especially for a Moore movie

1979 - Moonraker. OMG I hate Roger Moore. This one is too stupid for words as we get Bond in outer space

1981 - For Your Eyes Only. The series tries to get serious again but Moore can't pull it off. KILLER ending sequence though

1983 - Octopussy. Yep, this is the one where Moore dresses like a CLOWN and pisses on Bond's legacy forever. Also notable for being the most boring Bond movie ever made.

1983 - Never Say Never Again. Not a real Bond movie, this is just embarrassing for everyone involved

1985 - A View To A Kill. Horribly lame even for a Moore movie, not even Christopher Walken could have saved this one

1987 - The Living Daylights. The first Timothy Dalton Bond! It's pretty good, but the next one totally overshadows it

1989 - Licence To Kill. Dalton's Bond gets no love. This is a FANTASTICALLY dark take on the franchise, and totally paved the way for Daniel Craig

1995 - GoldenEye. BOOM! One of the best Bond movies of all time

1997 - Tomorrow Never Dies. It's all downhill for Bronson after Goldeneye, this is just the beginning

1999 - The World Is Not Enough. Denise Richards is a nuclear physicst. That sums up this movie perfectly

2002 - Die Another Day. The worst Bond film of all time, but it gets so bad it becomes hilarious to watch

2006 - Casino Royale. My pick for the greatest Bond movie of all time, even if the ending drags on way too long

2008 - Quantum Of Solace. It has a horrible script but everything else is pretty solid here. Fascinating film to watch

2012 - Skyfall. I think I'm the only person in the world that didn't like this one as much as everyone else seemed to

TLDR, Must buys:

Dr. No

From Russia With Love

Goldfinger

Thunderball

Licence To Kill

Medium buys:

On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Live And Let Die

The Living Daylights

Low buys:

The Spy Who Loved Me

The Man With The Golden Gun

I like the way you think!

Thanks OP. Added another 5 to my Bond collection:

On Her Magesty's Secret Service

Dr. No

Goldfinger

Licence to Kill

The Living Daylights

Joining the titles I already had:

From Russia With Love

Thunderball

Live and Let Die (the only Moore Bond I really like)

Goldfinger (the only Brosnan Bond I really like)

Casino Royale

Quantum of Solace

Skyfall

Pretty sure I'm done with Bond blurays now until the next Craig one comes out.

This is a pretty consistent list I also advocate. Dr No is THE film that pioneers James Bond, so its a must for anyone breaking into the series. And Sean Connery has had chances to play off of the classic Bond idea with greater success than all the others.

My Recommended List:

Dr. No (this is the first...the only...Bond. James Bond)

From Russia With Love (It does bring the fun of inter-nation espionage into the picture...not to mention Robert Shaw is probably the best villain you see out of the lot in this movie)

Goldfinger (another well written Bond...arguably, Sean Connery had more consistent and enjoyable Bonds than the rest

Thunderball (this is actually the original construct for ideas bastardized by Never Say Never Again, which was an American production)

On Her Majesty's Secret Service (the only George Lazenby movie filmed...very well written, especially since it shows a side of Bond you rarely saw at the time)

-There are no Roger Moore movies I could recommend...all of them have their good points, their bad points, but for wholly good watches, I can't-

The Living Daylights/License to Kill (Timothy Dalton had only two Bond films under his belt, but both were good IMO)

Goldeneye (Sean Bean as bad guy...need I say more? This is the best out of the Brosnan Bonds)

Casino Royale (This modernized and grittified Bond, not to mention it brings us the lovely Eva Green before she got popular in media circa 2014...and did I mention Mads "Hannibal Lecter circa 2013" Mikkensen is the villain?)

Wow guys, thanks for all the recommendations. I'm probably going to buy all the Brosnan ones because those are the ones I grew up with (I know they aren't great but nostalgia can be a bitch) and now I know what from the classics to pick up.

Thanks for the feedback.

Of course this would happen. I still needed 10 Bond films so I got the Bond 50 set last month for $73 during that Fox Connect glitch and it was cheaper to go that route. Oh well.

Dude, don't buy all of them. Goldeneye is the only one worth the effort.

Thanks OP, but I'm holding out hope another year on the Bond 50 Blu-ray collection being cheaper than $99.99 on BF...

Just so you guys know amazon is pm'ing these but it seems to be random. Yesterday there was 8, in the afternoon it was 7, now I think its 4-5 and the titles they are matching seem to change to I am not really sure why, just in case someone cares.

Not sure, but they had a display in the store I went to today. I picked up the Daniel Craig films and OHMSS.

Something of note, didn't see it online but in store I saw a 2 pack that contained Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace that was also $5.

Thanks, this post helped me out a lot. I bought 5 movies.
