I am trying to help a roommate here who is being severely screwed over by Verizon.

His bill is around $120 a month, and he's now trying to change to a cheaper plan such as a monthly Net 10 or similar.

He's currently with Verizon, using a Casio Commando 4G.

It has a SIM CARD, but he thinks/claims that there is no way to switch the service over to the other service ($50-$60 a month unlimited txt/minutes) because Verizon phones cannot be unlocked.

Does anyone have any help or advice they can give on any of these subjects?
(Everyone else in the house uses Net 10/Straight Talk)

That Verizon phone has gsm. So you can. And I think Verizon has to unlock there 4g phones. But If they have to pay a termination fee it may not be worth porting over.

Or they could just buy a Moto G or E and they would have a new phone.

SIM cards for various providers including Net10 can be found cheaply on eBay. Your roommate could a few from potential carriers to try in his phone and not lose out on the full costs at a retail store or their website.
