Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

I haven't seen it yet but the trailer looks so good that I picked up Rise of the Planet of the Apes to prep for it. What's nice is that the blu-ray also came with a free money movie ticket for it.

It looks like one awesome movie. I am really hoping to see it this weekend, but I may not be able to see it for quite a while. They're going to make this into a trilogy right?

Definitely my favorite film of the summer thus far. Really surprised me too, as I had no expectations of this being something I was going to enjoy so much.

I honestly thought it was one of the best movies of the summer.  For once the performances of the CG characters (Apes) was better than the humans.  You really feel more for the apes than the humans and see how hard it is for Caesar to lead his apes and how he is forced to deal with the situation that was created due to Koba's actions.  How will this end for the SF tribe, which most likely is the only tribe that has achieved intelligence.  Unless there is more of that ALZ-113 lying around, there is no way that Caesar can make other apes smart enough before the humans retaliate.  Will the sequel happen right after the end of the second movie or take place years later with the smart apes on the run from the humans?  who knows.... as for it being a trilogy ...that's a good question.  The first movie left many possibilities open, including the possibility of the space ship (from the first movie) returning to earth and finding it totally dominated by apes just like the original movie.  I don't recall much about any of the original ape movies, I should buy them though as they are cheap these days.

but overall an excellent movie...just be prepared for some intense scenes with the apes if you are sensitive to it

Koba dragging Ash and tossing him over the ledge was kinda intense as you never seen that in a movie done by an animal.

Don't know what I expected when I went to see it, but I thought it could have been better.  With that said I did like the film I just thought it was lacking something and I don't even know what that is.  I'm still not even sure if I like the different take on the series than just remaking the originals or not.  On one hand I really liked them and don't like the change however on the other hand I like seeing a different take on it and seeing it all start.  Both are good.  I really hope the next is at least just as good as this one.  The film did have me feeling bad for the apes because of one they're now in a war.

outside of my opinion of the film ( a yawner except Serkis) one thing that really bugs me is the title of the film should have been switched.

This should be Rise, the previous should be Dawn

Yes the titles are a little misleading. I honestly thought they should have kept the original title Caesar for the first movie.

Dawn for the first one maybe...the second one hard to say. Third one I dunno... War for?

War for the planet of the apes?  Doesn't really fit for me.  I'm not sure what they should call it.  Hell I'm not even sure if I'd call these planet of the apes films.  Sure that's what they are, but they just don't have the planet of the apes feel.  To me they seem to stand out on their own and should be called something else.  Caesar would have worked so much better and for the second one I'm not sure.  Not even sure if I'd call the third Caesar's War.  The films seem to be more about him than all of the apes so to call them Caesar and have another title added seems more fitting than planet of the apes.  However if they were to have done that then you would have all the people saying it ripped off planet of the apes not knowing it's a remake with a new name.

These movies' names are backwards, IMO, Dawn should've been the first one, and Rise should've been this one.  Anyway, the third one should be Through the Planet of the Apes, and it'll be about the last few humans trying to make it from one safe zone for humans to another.  That could also be the fourth one.
