When Naughty Dog first revealed that they will be bringing a remastered version of The Last of Us to the Playstation 4, the developer shared their hopes to allow a digital discount of the new-gen edition to those who already owned the game on the Playstation 3. Unfortunately, it has now been announced that there will be no upgrade discount available for the game as was confirmed on Wednesday by the senior manager of the Playstation Blog, Sid Shuman.

After the HD remake of The Last of Us for the PS4 was first made available for pre-order, the price of the game has since been lowered to $49.99. This universal $10 price drop has now been confirmed to be the only discount that will be offered to fans wanting to pick up the post-apocalyptic title on the PS$ as the title will cost the same amount to both new and previous player.

Along with the reveal that there won’t be a digital upgrade discount, Shuman also announced that all of the title’s DLC will be cross-buy between both Playstation platforms that the game appears on. Since the PS4 remastered edition of The Last of Us will alreadly include all of the currently released add-ons, this announcement many seem unnecessary. However, it now appears that Naughty Dog plans to release more multiplayer DLC packs in the future. No additional single player, story-based content is expected.

The Last of Us Remastered Edition will bring the critically acclaimed game to the PS4 later this year. The new hardware will allow fans to experience the title with new HD textures and improved frame rates. The upcoming PS4 version of The Last of Us will natively support 60 frames but players will have the option to lock the rate to only 30 fps. With no plans to offer a discount to existing owners, it will be interesting to see how many gamers will purchase a remake of a title that released just one year ago

What do you guys/gals think about this

Let's be serious for a moment... how many games actually offer a discount when you upgrade? This is nothing more then a GOTY that happens to be released on the PS4

No. There's a difference between stuff like AC IV, COD Ghosts, etc. launching on multiple generations of consoles as opposed to stuff like this, which is a remake done after the fact and including all the DLC.

Best thing you can do is boycott the game and down the road it will be free on PS+ or it'll go on sale very cheap next year on PSN at some point. I'm not rushing to play a PS3 game with a frsh coat of paint and a better FPS.

$10 off the expected price of $60.

$10 in Amazon credit from Bing.

$10 in credit from Sony Rewards.

Traded in PS3 version when PS4 version was announced.

I'm probably going to get it.

I don't know why a discount was expected. For starters $50 isn't bad for the upgrade especially since it comes with all the DLC. What would happen if someone bought the original but not the Season Pass? Do they get a better upgrade than someone who bought both?

It seems like the people who wanted a discount from upgrading are just looking for more reasons to buy it but you really don't need to buy it all of it you don't want to.

That being said at $40 with GCU I'll definitely get it since I never played the PS3 version.

This is why people are wondering about a discount or an upgrade fee.

When I bought Final Fantasy on PS3 I got it for a steal during a PSN sale, plus an added discount because I have PS+. When the PS4 game was getting ready to launch I got a free upgrade courtesy of Square; AND early access. The only condition was that my PS3 copy could no longer be used. Now that right there is a plan that makes sense to gamers.

The difference here I guess is this game doesn't have a monthly sub to recoop the money on...

The difference here is that it has added content. AFAIK the PS3 and PS4 versions of FF XIV RR are the same correct? Aren't they even hosted on the same servers?

You would have had to buy the season pass to have the same content as what is essentially the GOTY version (i.e. PS4) of TLOU.

Yes it's a shitty practice but literally every game that puts out a GOTY or definitive version does it this way..... like:

Skyrim
Borderlands 2

Tomb Raider

Halo

Battlefield 3

Uncharted 3

GT5

Halo 4

etc.

Just wait a month or two and the PS4 version will be $29.99 or less. I honestly don't know why anyone thinks Sony would offer any sort of discount... the game will sell well as is.

I mean assuming you're going to get a discount on this is like assuming you'd get a discount on Infamous SS because you were loyal to the brand and bought the first two.
