EBay Sale Problem

CAGs,

Looking for some advice from y'all.

I sold an item on EBay and sent it out with tracking/delivery confirmation.  The user has emailed me saying he never got the item.  I spoke with the post office that would have delivered it and they said they do not have it and gave me the date/times it left their post office and when it was delivered.

They told me I would have to file a complaint on usps website.  Has anyone been through this process?  I'm guessing as the seller I am going to get the short end on this.  The item sold for a good amount so I'm looking at a pretty good loss on this.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim

If the tracking shows as Delivered you should be okay -- there's not much you can really do, as contacting USPS won't do much, as they delivered it... but this is eBay, so yeah, you will likely get the short end of it all.

I'm not sure if I have this right but the potential events that could happen are: you'll win the eBay dispute, since tracking says item was delivered... but the buyer could just file a chargeback with his bank/credit card company. But if the buyer does that, PayPal will suspend the buyer's account. But the buyer can still check out without an account.

Now, there is a chance that the item was actually mis-delivered. Just because USPS says it's delivered really doesn't mean anything. Obviously, it's not your fault but I would try to be understanding with the buyer and suggest he/she check with neighbors.

OK well that sounds a bit better than I was expecting. At first I believed the buyer but he's told me a couple odd things during our back and forth. At first he claimed the post office wouldn't give him any details about the shipment. Which just sounds off since he is the receiver of the package. Now he's being pretty aggressive in his accusations against the post office and he's sure they took it.

The more I talk to him the more he seems guilty but obviously that's just my impression. I'm going to open the complaint with the post office but not sure what else I should be doing on my end. Wouldn't he file the complaint with the post office?

Cover your ass.

You may want to be preemptive about this and report the buyer. If he starts asking for money don't give him shit without your item back.

I have had more problems in the past year on eBay than in the previous 15 years combined. People want stuff for free, it's sad really. Good thing you used tracking, because that covers your ass. If you didn't already, upload that tracking information to eBay, if you used eBay shipping, you are fine. Also if you paid at the post office, I hope you saved your receipt.

I used to be able to flip stuff pretty easily on eBay, but between pains in the butt and fees, I end up swapping a lot of stuff into Gamestop anymore.

Well the issue has been solved. I followed everyone's advice and escalated this with eBay. Since I had tracking confirmation and it showed delivered they ruled in my favor. I was going to ignore q further C intact with the buyer.

Then yesterday he messaged me asking if I shipped the set in a LG sound bar box, which I already told him. He said he received that box and assumed he bought a sound bar and never checked the box and put it upstairs. He just realized this now.

Very annoyed, he went from talking about how to get his refund to now realizing he got the exact box I described and put it in his upstairs without checking it. Scummy move, is there anyway to alert eBay of this.

In the Sold section of your eBay, find the listing and click the "more options" drop box and select report buyer.

But... eBay doesn't care. I've dealt with scammers on eBay all the time and they never care. Hell, I was once ripped off by two sellers-- one sold multiple counterfeit games (based on his feedback) and the other refused to send the item/return my money (both resolved through Resolution Center) so I report both sellers and leave negative feedback. Ebay's response was to remove the feedback I left for both because I had left too many negative feedback in a short span.
