Please Help: Getting an Xbox One to Play Games Offline

My uncle, who doesn't have Internet, bought a new Xbox One yesterday and I did the initial online setup at my house for him and created his profile. I stopped there.

When I took it to his house and put in Watch Dogs, it insisted that I need to be online to sign in to his profile. I tried to create a new profile offline and couldn't do that either. Of course, I couldn't access the game without a profile.

How do you sign in and play an Xbox One offline?

I am no expert since I just got my system last month, but I think I know what's up. Certain titles cannot be played without first downloading their initial updates/patches. Having played Watch Dogs on PS4, I'm pretty sure I recall a decent sized update on day 1. That may be the issue.

Thanks, Matt. That's what I was afraid of after having tried multiple online searches. It's pretty ridiculous that I'd likely have to bring his Xbox here every time he buys a new game. I still don't know why I couldn't access his profile though.

i have to sign  in  with gamer profile online every time i play the xbox 360, so i don't see why i would be any different with xbox one.

You can definitely play the Xbox 360 while signed in to your profile but not being connected to Live. Just obviously not online games.

Did you put "remember my password" when you created his profile? That would be one reason it can't sign in offline. Also try setting it to his "home console" in the xbox one settings. That's all I can think of right now.

That is odd. I know Microsoft went back on their "needing online to play" nonsense, but this isn't good sign. I know Xbox 360 allows most games to be played online, but I didn't know it'd be like this for the Xbox One. I hope everything gets sorted out soon.

Did you update his system? I believe that you have to do that Day One update in order to play offline.

The patch is suppose to get rid of the always on stuff that MS had originally planned.

I haven't played watch dogs on xbone so I cant comment on that specifically.

Unfortunately, Microsoft has a scummy "feature" where, if you're not connected to XBL while playing your 360, all your icons for your digital games in "My Games" are blank, gray boxes. You can still play your digital games, but why in the world would they store the icons for your own collection on the XBL servers, and not your local HDD? My PS3, PS4, and Vita all show game icons for my purchased digital games when they're offline, why can't the 360 do that as well? I think its just one more punishment for not being connected to their XBL network; its a pretty sleazy "feature".

I did the online update for him at my house. This thing is a $400 brick.
Shouldn't the Xbox One have the November launch firmware update from the factory already? A friend of mine bought a PS4 in June and it came with the 1.51 firmware update(2nd firmware update for PS4).
