From the article:

Destructoid reports that it has "obtained photographs" of a purported brochure advertising a credit card tied to the retailer's existing PowerUp Rewards program. Signing up for the card nets customers anywhere from 5,000 to 15,000 PowerUp Rewards Points (worth roughly $5 to $15 in value), according to the images, as well as benefits like "special financing offers." We'd expect that having a GameStop credit card would also provide Rewards Points for everyday purchases, but there's no mention of such a benefit in the report.
Those signup bonuses are… kinda weak. And of course, it has a ridiculously high APR

Again, this is all based on one Destructoid report, so who knows if it'll come to pass. It sounds like just the sort of thing GameStop would get into, though.

ETA: They really exist now. Thanks, Bezerker!

I would be in IF and ONLY if they offered high point incentives.

I spend a thousand or two at gamestop yearly on exclusives and hard to find items. I don't do a lot of trades and I don't typically buy used games but I wouldn't be carrying any sort of balance. As it is I have over 200K in points and have yet to find anything exclusive to spend them on.

That sounds scummy, especially when they play their employees via a fee laden debit card in the absence of direct deposit.

I can see Gamestop doing this. Not worth actually getting a card from them, but I suppose some people will jump at the opportunity.

A lot of stores issue their own credit cards... why is it so wrong when GS does it?

If they have a card with decent points bonuses, then it might be worth signing up. My brother has an Amazon card and since he spends tons of money there, it makes sense for him to have one... even with a high APR (but he pays off his balances, so it's not a huge issue).

I don't know about this.  I'd probably max out that Gamestop credit card and end up not being able to pay it off.

I can see it a year from now.  I end up having to trade in every single game/system I own, just to pay off the interest.

Being broke most of the time has stopped me from buying a lot of things there.

Then again, maybe I should see this as a way to build up my credit score.

I just see a bunch of broke asses getting the credit card thinking this way they can stop trading in games for money to buy new ones, proceed to buy everything they want, then can't pay the bill do they file for a bk or just let it sit in collections never to go into a gamestop again

This might actually work for me if I can walk back into my local Gamestop in order to pay off the bill with cash, before the interest kicks in.  I know nothing about credit card bill paying.

If the card actually ends up being backed by them then you should be able to. If it's backed by another bank then you most likely won't be able to.

These are now available to get if anyone is interested.  I got approved for mine.  Sadly the credit limit they gave me is low compared to other store cards, but I could always just pay it off early should I need more credit.

What are the benefits you get with it? Are they the same as in the leaked brochure?

Other than the 15k points for signing up and special financing offers on bigger purchases, all it says is "Exclusive Offers – Available only to cardholders". I would imagine those exclusive offers are mostly getting more points per $, which was the main reason I signed up for the card

Apparently there are also a limited number of "Day One Edition" cards for early adopters. They dont have any additional benefits, just a different card design
