I wonder how the FFIX strategy guide is going to work when playonline or whatever that site was called isn't online anymore.

In other news, Square Enix goes into the porn business with the stars of FF VII, VIII, and IX in Playboy Magazine. I can see it...Oh God I want to unsee that in my head right now.

Man SE, are really trying to make the next fiscal quarter selling 3 strategy guides, beautifully remastered for 129.99. Unless those strategy guides were gold plated and personally signed by Amano, Uematsu, Sakaguchi, its a no buy for me.

I can't see why this is a deal. Who wants to buy a guide for video games when you can get help from Gamefaqs?

This is just a waste of money for in-game screenshots and shiny pics in a hardcover.

I was happy enough to pick up a copy of The Sky art books illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano for $19.03.

Seems like a very random time to release such things.
Yeah, it makes me wonder if Square Enix is going to be doing something with those games, like another HD collection(the title could still be a place holder) or just a Blu-ray/Vita cart version of the PSN stuff on sale right now.

The X and the T keys aren't even close to each other. Someone's figures must have only been typing out of muscle memory.

Also OP, you didn't see a thread for this because you're in the "Deals" forum. These are at MSRP. An extremely overpriced MSRP to boot.

There's never been a better application of the phrase "don't pay for it". Especially with the whole boxed sex thing, that's just dirty.

On a serious note, will this actually have a FIXED FF IX strategy guide, or will it again hide most of the relevant info behind a site that no longer exists?

Probably the same way it did back in 2002 when they realized it was an idiotic idea to have a printed guide that tells you to visit a website for all of the information. They've always been prone to stupid ideas, though, like making Dragon Quest Wii into an on-rails shooter and ditching the Chrono Trigger series to make the piece of shit known as MindJack. I would swallow a load from this hot garbage if it only came with a sequel to that amazing series.

The stupidity is large in this thread...

BradyGames made the original official guides for these games. These are supposedly rewritten by PRIMA. And there's no word if they're official or not from what I could tell. Square-Enix would have nothing to do with this to boot besides official licensing at best.

But yes, they are indeed ridiculously priced, no matter how "beautiful" they may be.

I mainly bought guides for the art and secrets I missed back in the day, but FF9 was where I stopped and just used the Internet. I was tempted to add it to my collection, but I was told it wasn't even worth $5 with it frequently asking you to use PlayOnline.

Whatever happened to that SexuallyFrustrated guy? He would be all over this deal.

EDIT: Found out he has been banned. Ouch.

I really don't get this...  Why randomly release guides for games that were made well over a decade ago?  Unless they are planning on releasing guides on all of the FF games in volumes of 3 or are planning some type of re-release for these games in particular, this seems pretty stupid and I cant imagine it selling all that well.  Especially at that price.

Is this a joke? Not OP's title, but the fact that they're charging $130 for guides (that they probably ripped off of GameFAQs or something) just because they now have hardcovers, ribbons, and a lithograph?

I prefer my sex in a box.  It's harder for them to get away.

EDIT: The OP's thread title has been updated.  It used to read "Final Fantasy Boxed SEX".  Now this joke makes no sense.

I played through FFIX with the guide back in the day and I had no problem with it. It did have some parts where if you wanted more info it directed you to PlayOnline but almost everything was in the guide.

I like guides. I like them as a piece of merchandise more than actually using them, though.

But, wow. $43 (retail) or even Amazon's current price of $41 per guide for hardcover and a lithograph? For old games that haven't been redone? Wow. These would have to be English versions of the Ultimania guides for me to be tempted. Or art books. I'm a sucker for art books.

Although this thread was totally worth it for all the jokes.

I really wonder if Amazon jumped the gun and revealed something Squeenix was saving as a surprise. This listing makes practically no sense otherwise. :whistle2:k

Now I'm not buying into the psn sale just in case lol I don't know how i would feel about a ff 7 rerelease, I paid so much in the ps2 era (when I was old enough to know ff) for my ps1 copy of ff7+a guide, I think it was like $100 >.< But if it is like a total ground up amazing graphics I might just get it, but a slight gloss would probably not be enough unless it came with like ff6 and 8, which I don't own.
