Astro's any good?

I was thinking of grabbing some astros (A40's probably dont care much about wireless on the 50's) if they go on sale around this PAX or something. Thing is ive been looking at some reviews and i guess the models that came out in 2013 may have some problems with the mic? It sounds like its not very good quality in general. Which if true is bs for $250 headphones. But it really sounds like theres some issue with the actual software or soemthing too

ANyone have a newer pair of these? ARe they decent? Is the mic shit?

You can get MUCH better quality headphones for $250. Hell, you can get much better headphones for less than that.

Literally any of those will blow the Astros out of the water. If you need a mic then, just grab something like a Zalman clip-on or an Antlion ModMic.

The nice thing about the Astro's a40's is the mixamp. And they are super comforable to wear.

I can vouch for Sennheiser myself.  I've been using a pair of HD280 Pro's for almost two years and they are awesome.  They can be had for 100 or less.  The only issue with the ones I have is that they are a closed design.  Meaning no air in and no out, so they can make your ears rather hot at times.

To be honest, I'd take SEH's advice and get a really really great set of cans, best you can afford, and add a clip on mic.  Thats what I do.  Sennheiser actually does make gaming headphones with a mic.

Some makers, like Sennheiser, who are focused more audio, make gaming headsets.  So it wouldn't hurt to checkout brands like them to see if they make any.  Reason being is that, say you buy a Turtle Beach headset, its more for gaming and you'll find it lacking the music department.  Thats how I've always seen it.  Sorry for being overly verbose or anything, but starting to fall asleep lol
