Confused over destiny

I preordered it, tried beta without much to see, and wasn't impressed, but I saw footage and synopses and what to expect from developer interviews and I'm confused

What is this exactly? I've looked up all terms and wikid searched it all but practically I don't see it

Is it supposed to be like sky rim + halo+ borderlands, with emphasis on FPS missions but then interactive massive changeable worlds ?..if so for what? Like AC building wealth?

Can someone just break this multigenre game into a short summary for a casual console plAyer who has no experience with online PC games

Thx

MMORPGFPS. It's an MMORPG mixed with an FPS. It has RPG-elements, FPS-gameplay, and is massively-multiplayer and only online.

Ehhh, I'm hyped for Destiny.

Played too much Diablo 3 on PS3 and enough on PS4 to be reminded that its never going to be as great as PC because all of the dupes and modded gear.

Destiny being online only assures me that it won't have the same problems.

Destiny will win on that alone, everything else is just icing on the cake.

Looks way too complicated in rpg dept, just like pickup n play

I barely prestige in cod , I think It might be wrong for me

All I dig ATM is killzone (played bf4 a lot n it's great) but kz has lot to offer now bugs r all out

N also the mp in last of us is almost like uncharted which is awesome

If u buy destiny n return it, let's say a week after it's delivered, I'm assuming we don't keep $10 right

if d3 has the same type of drop system like bl2, then im glad people could dupe things. fighting the same boss 100 times to try and get 1 gun is asinine.

Mods not dupes, sorry

I couldnt care less about people duping legit items, its the god mode mods that people use that ruin the experience.

No interest in Destiny just like I have no interest in Titanfall. Online-only games, with no SP content, are an easy pass. Loving D3 on the PS4, I waited for that version and didn't bother with the PC or last-gen versions, so it's all new to me.

I have no idea what you even mean with the $10 thing. Regarding the customization, it is really very well explained in-game and is pretty simple. If you can handle COD's loadout and perk system, you can handle Destiny. Now whether or not you'd enjoy the gameplay, I cannot say. I loved it, but some were disappointed.

Except Destiny has SP content...
In all fairness, I think he might have meant that the game isn't playable offline. The disk will be a coaster when the servers go down. Would be cool if they patched the game to be playable offline in a handful of years, but that is doubtful.

In the same way you can do MMO missions by yourself, it's not possible to play the game SP, you HAVE to play online. I also worry bosses/missions will be scaled in difficulty and tactics to be meant to be tackled by multiple people since there is no offline mode, making it overly difficult for a single person to play. In Defiance, anyone who happens to wander into the area when a boss comes down is automatically partied together so that everyone gets rewards. If two people wander into a "dark zone" in Destiny unless they are manually partied together they split off into their own iteration of that boss area.

The raid system is also currently trash. The mid-tiers (3 man time) allow random matchmaking, but if someone drops out due to frustration or lost connection no one is ever slotted back into the missing slot(s). And when it can take 60 minutes to do one raid (more if you fail versus the wave of enemies on the way to the boss and have to restart at a checkpoint) when someone drops off it makes it take even longer. High tier raids require 6 people and there is no random matchmaking so you have to have 6 friends all with the same edition of the game on at the same time in order to play. I did one raid during the beta it was so repetitive and annoying since the road to the boss had long waves of enemies and the boss itself wasn't that difficult but it just had SO MUCH HP that it made the fight a chore.

Yes you have to play online BUT there is nothing stopping you from playing the campaign solo. I played the Beta solo. Sure you're going to see other players running around but as soon as you enter one of the "no spawn areas" you are by yourself. And I highly doubt anything will be scaled to a point where you can't solo it. You may need to get better gear and try again, but that's no different than a game like Diablo or Borderlands.

Destiny is one game I can play a lot of. Played the beta and really enjoyed what it was, sadly I wish the beta was a bit longer to play around with it more. I will get it at some point, but I wont be pre-ordering it.

I love this game, and I think its great, best shooter ive played since Far Cry 3, I mean this thing is at the level of borderlands, which was my favorite FPS, but this is even better, and I am told by my girlfriend whos an former xbox player, that this is halo + BL2. if that's really what destiny is, I vote FPS of year, perhaps GOTY if it turns out to be more fun than the last of us in the end for me.

Great game. I spent hours playing BL2, but what I didn't like was the lack of AI Shooters and less melee attacks besides super bosses. Its like your either getting shot to shit or you are getting pummelled. I like this game because it has the RPG of BL 2 (actually it looks like they nearly copied it) and then you got the AI of KZ coop and like really good survival shooter type matches

I don't really get the MP but Im glad they have one, I thought it was all online. Also don't understand the interaction of other people during your match, for instance....if its your story mission, and they are playing but not in your fireteam, do you share the loot picked up or from enemies killed, or like BL2 first come first served and one only?

Anyway, GREAT fucking game.

Funniest part: MY WOMAN PLAYS IT MORE THAN ME cuz she used to be addicted to halo, so I barely get to play now on weekends.

Campaign feels empty in this game solo due to the little story. Destiny is a social driven game. It's goodness is derived from playing with others, you need(to get the most out of it) mics too.

I obviously made those comments before I knew how short and sub-par the story was going to be. That said, I've really only done a few strikes with some fellow CAGers, mostly playing solo and I'm still having a blast. The whole "playing with others is needed to enjoy this game" is an opinion that not everyone shares.

I'm so glad I fought the hype monster inside of me and didnt get Destiny. All my friends who got it are moaning and groaning about it. Its biggest fan txted me and was furious about a dev comment that 'you gotta keep playing it gets better' lol

Honestly people who don't like this game do not like MMO games.  This is absolutely an MMO.  Just about every one of it's downfalls is intentional because of MMO tradition.

I tend to not like MMOs, but I find the game play to be great.

Also the Crucible is great due to the amount of mind games you can play.  Lower skill levels tend to sprint/shotgun constantly and it is fun messing with the lower skilled.

Yeah I've put about 50 hours into Destiny so far and I absolutely love it. I'm not going to say the complaints about the game are "inaccurate" but I don't think they're actually important, to me at least.  The story *is* paper-thin, the world *isn't* as "open" as some people may have though it should be, the RPG-esque skill trees are pretty shallow, the different classes play a little more similarly than they might in another game.  All of that stuff is true, and none of that stuff has had any negative impact on my experience with Destiny whatsoever.

Destiny is a game about shooting a bunch of different things in the face.  That's it.  It makes shooting those things in the face extremely fun to do, it gives you lots of different things to shoot in the face, lots of different reasons to shoot them in the face, and lots of different guns to shoot them in the face with.  If you do not want to shoot things in the face, then do not buy Destiny, because 99% of what you'll be doing in Destiny is shooting things in the face.  If you *do* want to shoot things in the face, then Destiny is probably the best game for you to have come out in at least the past few years.

It's kinda too bad Bungie didn't communicate what this game was really all about to the world better/more accurately, though.  I definitely have friends who thought they were getting some Mass Effect / Fallout-esque epic roleplaying game full of skill trees and character builds and NPC storylines and stuff like that, based on some of the more grandiose claims made by Bungie, and it's totally justified for those sorts of fans to be really disappointed with the experience Destiny ultimately provided them.   It's also too bad in another way because I know there's straight action/shooter fans out there who have passed up on the game because of that same perception.  I had to spend 15 minutes talking a buddy of mine who doesn't give an eff about RPGs into trying Destiny because he thought it was "one of those boring conversation tree games like Mass Effect" but now that he's playing it he absolutely loves it.

tl;dr -- Destiny is for shooting stuff in the face in.

I picked this game up off of ebay very cheap and I have to say I really like it. the gameplay is super smooth I think the items are really fun to get. they need to make it easier to talk to other players that you're not friends with and they need a matchmaking for just questing not just the strikes
