As title says. Buy a digital version of Destiny for 360 or PS3 and get a free upgrade to the Xbox One/PS4 digital version. Kind of a PSA more than a real deal but saw this at Neogaf.

Note 1: You must claim the Xbox One (standard or digital guardian) or PS4 version (standard or digital guardian) by January 15th 2015. You can do this online without even owning a PS4 or Xbox One console.  Simply go to the respective companies online store and claim your free upgrade license (by January 15th). If you do this you can then download the upgraded version at any time in the future.

Note 2: the deal is not cross console. You can't buy the 360 version then upgrade to the PS4 version. You have to do 360/Xbox One or PS3/PS4.

So, is it safe to assume that all of us who already have the Xbox One or PS4 versions pre-ordered digitally are out of luck now and won't be able to get the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions?

I think you can cancel XB1 pre-orders, but you need to call them. PS4 I think is out of luck. I'm switching to digital with this news. Very cool. Still can't decide between platforms.

 
If you have a ps4 and want the ps4 version why not just buy it on the ps4? It costs the same for either system.

Not really much of a deal.

No backwards ownership for digital games. Debating about trying to get MS to cancel my digital preorder on Xbox One...
 
It's a deal if you own both old gen and new gen.

If you get on the Gamestop coupon deal then that's a bomb combo deal

Yeah if you only have the new gen then it's pointless. But if you either have both gens or only have a ps3/360 right now (but plan to upgrade in the next 4 months) then it's a damn good deal.

Wow what terrible timing. I just pre-ordered the DIGITAL version for the X1. I would have waited a few days if I knew this was happening. Not sure if It's worth the hassle to get the old gen version to play w 2 friends. Whatever. /anger

I've not read anything about this, but do your characters seamlessly transfer between the two different consoles ( :360: :xb1: or :ps3: :ps4:)?

Yes. Whether you participate in this program or not, your Guardians, progress, stats, and gear are shared within a console family (PlayStation®3<->PlayStation®4 or Xbox 360<->Xbox One) and will be waiting for you when you transition to next-gen.

So just cancel it and order in which ever version you prefer. I'm not sure I understand the big deal. The pre-orders aren't non-refundable are they? And it's not like they can run out of digital copies of the one you'd like to switch to.

I'll download it on 360 just for the fuck of it. I'll probably never play that version but 2 games for one is cool with me. Now I kind of wish I ordered the 360 LE instead of the XB1, that way I can transfer over the expansion pack too for the  fuck of it too lol

I'd bite but ever since I connected ps4, ps3 went on a shelf. Am I the one who feels weird about going backwards even for a brief period? :/

...That's not how it works. You have to redeem the One version by January (in 5 months) via the Xbox One itself otherwise the deal is gone.

 
Why not just offer either or, buy next gen and get previous gen free and vice versa so that all those who have already preordered digitally for the next gen version aren't screwed out of it, it's stupid.

 
Had the :360: disc preordered but cancelling in favor of this. There doesn't seem to be any time limit on upgrading to the Xbone version (only on the original last-gen purchase), so whenever I get around to upgrading to Xbone, free copy of Destiny will be waiting for me. Awesome.

 
Not a huge deal, but it doesnt look like you can preorder the 360 digital version, so you wont be able to get the Vanguard Armory if thats any interest to you. Thats the way it looks to me at least.

That's not the way I'm reading it... The 1/15/2015 deadline is for the digital purchase of the last-gen version.

That will only work if you know someone with a Xbox One so you can log on to your account and "buy" the One version before the deadline.

EDIT: nevermind guess I read it wrong too.

So i have the limited edition for the ps4 reserved at best buy (i'm part of GCU btw), i don't know if i should cancel it and just get $100 worth of psn card next week for $87.50 due to the buy one get 25% off of prepaid cards and get the digital guardian edition for the ps3 and get the free ps4 version with the expansions packs. Advices?

Yeah, this is a bit misleading. I checked Amazon and Gamestop and they only sell digital versions for next gens. The Xbox Marketplace doesn't even have the 360 digital/game-on-demand version up at all.

Doesn't sound like it to me.

I'm still not seeing that... It says that if you get the 360 LE with a token for the season pass, that token has to be redeemed on the 360 by 1/15/2015.

Naw, I meant pre-ordering the digital versions on the 360. There's no way to do that right now.

I don't know how 360/Xbox One work, but at least with the PS4 the January 15th date won't really matter. All you'd have to do is claim the PS4 version by January 15th 2015. You don't need to own a PS4 to do that. You can do it online. Anyone know if it works the same way for 360/One?

Anyone take the plunge and pre-order the PS3 version yet?

I want to know if the PS4 pre-order then shows up as "free."

I'll cancel my PS4 physical pre-order that's only $5 off in exchange for getting a cross-buy digital version.

Just existed a live chat with a Sony rep to cancel my ps4 pre-order, apparently they didn't get the memo yet as i had to link them to the website, but they said they put in an order and i should be refunded in 3 to 5 business days (usually quicker)

hope this works, as i don't want the ps3 version when i have a ps4, but i can just gameshare it

you can pre-order on ps3 though, you could always pre-order games. I pre-ordered watch dogs on ps3 before i had my ps4, hell you could pre-order lbp 3 right now

How big is the file size for Destiny anyway? If it isn't too big I might get this deal for PS3, 10X back in points on the PS Card.

You can do the same thing on live.xbox.com, works great for claiming the Xbone Games with Gold even if you don't have the console yet. But I think we're reaching a consensus here that as long as you buy the last-gen game and/or season pass by that date, there's no deadline to claim or download the next-gen versions.

 
Don't really care for digital games but with having credit from the Gamestop MS currently promotion back in July I'll probably get it on 360 and get a free copy when I get the One later this year. Thanks for the heads up OP!
