This was an odd surprise. I noticed yesterday that the buttons on my PS3 to turn it on and eject a disc no longer work at all.
Frankly, this isn't generally a problem, because I have a PS3 remote, and you can do it with the controller and menus as well.
However, there have been times when I've needed to "hold down" the power button and such to get to the system recovery menu and all that stuff. I think my PS3 hard drive is about dead, frankly, so this may become an issue in the future.
So how the heck can I do that with a dead power button? I'm not really interested in repairing it or anything. But I still have an absolutely enormous PS3 backlog (a few disc games, lots of PSN PS3 games, PSN games, PS2 classics, etc etc), so I can't just say heck with it and upgrade to a PS4 or anything. If anything, I'd be more inclined to buy a new PS3 eventually.
I guess I'm hoping for a quick fix or workaround to get to the system menus and such if/when I need them?
sorry, wordy...
