Hey guys, I've got a question. I know I could check some review etc but wanted my fellow gamers from CAG'S opinion.

I know I'm late to the game but I have never picked up a Prof. Layton or Phoenix Wright game before.

I'm currently on a Mario trip as of late and was curious as to whether or not I would get into said games.

Opinions on each please would be appreciated.

I would say that you should wait for the Phoenix Wright Trilogy to be released, which will contain the first three games with translation corrections and updated graphics (they just smoothed out the sprites, essentially). Ace Attorney is one of my favorite series, but as a new user, you should really keep in mind that it plays out like a visual novel. The game is entirely based around text, but the stories, I feel, are put together incredibly well (the miracle of Takumi-san!). Not to mention, you'll be catching up on years of early internet memes!

Professor Layton, on the other hand, is a puzzle-oriented game. The series began around the era where Nintendo was trying to tap into the "brain game" market, so you may find the game quite cerebral. The story is also very well put together, as well as the puzzles, which are very fun and challenging.

Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney, on the other hand, takes a few liberties from both series, but melds them together into just the right blend of both. The puzzles have the same feel and challenge, while the courtroom battles have the right amount of "aha!" moments that really made the AA series.

TL;DR Both series are incredibly well made and extremely satisfying, as long as you're into the game type.

very cool about the phoenix wright trilogy (those are the only titles in the ace attorney series I have played). which I loved by the way.

that said, I lean toward prof. layton every time.  I am a puzzle guy, and the variety...plus in the later games you get the mini game puzzles. not to mention the weekly puzzles to download etc. the layton series has a certain charm I can not relate to in the pw games. I just picked up the vs. title...I plan to take my time and enjoy it.

the only layton game I have missed is the spin off game, layton bros. I know chapter 1 is free and then its pay to play. how is it?
