PS Tv or PS Vita?

CAGiversary!
I'm thinking about getting a Ps Vita.  Which would be the better option for me value wise?  The Ps Tv or the PS Vita?

Well do you have a PS4 or plan on getting one? If so PS Vita is the no brain choice. There is something magical about playing PS4 games in the palm of your hands.

I would never get the TV version if I had to choose one or the other.

I have a PS4 and love playing Diablo 3 on it.  The only thing that is holding me back on getting a PS Vita is the memory cards.  How often do they go on sale?

Not very often. The 64 GB ones (which have the highest capacity) sometimes go down to about $85 or $90, but that's about the lowest they've gone.

That said, as nice as 64 GB would be, you don't necessarily need it. I've been rocking an 8 GB since I bought my Vita in March, and it works well enough not to bug me too much. If you jump between games frequently, 64 GB is nice, but with 8 GB, I usually have two big games and 5-10 small games, which is alright since I just switch the big games out when I'm done with them.

(And if you decide to start with an 8 GB like I did: YMMV, but recently I've seen some clearance deals on starter kits at local department stores, around $10, which include a case, 8 GB card, and a screen-wiping cloth. That's better than the $20-something I paid for my 8 GB card alone)

I have a 32GB and it's enough for me. I'm a day one Vita owner.

There are a lot of games I no longer have on my Vita but I don't intend in playing those again. If I want them it's a quick DL from PSN. Right now I use my Vita mostly for:

Remote playing PS4
Retro gaming PS1 and PSP if that counts; mostly RPGs
Indy gaming
Vita gaming; I do have a bunch of Vita games but PS4 has my attention since launch.

Bottom line, I have a huge amount of games on my Vita with the 32GB. 64GB would be nice to have but I'm not exactly hurting with 32GB.

I use it exclusively for gaming, I keep music, movies and pictures, etc. on my Note 3.

Get a Vita first, then consider a Vita TV later if you like it. I have two Vitas (one for digital-only games, one for retail games), and love them. I also have a Vita TV on preorder.

Why didn't you just get 2 memory cards like I did?
I actually have 3 large memory cards (2 32gb and 1 64gb). The 64gb is in my "digital-only" Vita, a 32gb is in my "cart-only" Vita, and the other 32gb will go into my Vita TV when it arrives.

Why do all that? Well, I wanted a "backup" Vita anyway (got it used from GS with a 25% off coupon), so it made sense to just use that one for cart-only games, and save my main Vita for just digital games. The 100 app/game limit was an issue too, but Sony finally fixed that. And I prefer not to have to swap out memory cards a lot, which is why I picked up the 64gb card from superufo.

I got my Vita slim this week and love it.  Persona 4 is so addictive.  I also have Soul Sacrifice, Dragons Crown, Dynasty Warriors 8, and the only digital game so far Warriors Orochi Ultimate.  I'm thinking of getting Mortal Kombat and Dead or Alive 5.  Are there any other must have Vita games that I should get?

Spelunky on vita is pretty fun. I heard people liked rogue legacy on it. Hotline miami and velocity is pretty good too. What genre do you like?

Get a Vita.

The announced list for the PS TV doesn't include Gravity Rush, Tearaway, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, LEGO Marvel Superheroes, ModNation Racers: Road Trip, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus/Full Frontal Assault, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Resistance: Burning Skies, and Wipeout 2048.

A few of those games really suck anyway, but you are better off with a Vita for playing Vita games. Gravity Rush should not be missed.

If I had the money, I so would get the Vita TV and a 64GB.  Download everything digitally compatible with it that I own.  Then, I would get a Vita with another 64GB card, to have everything in a portable form and for those games that are not compatible with the Vita TV.

Picked up the PS TV this morning and just finished playing a little Conception 2 on the big screen. Came across an issue that I did not expect.

When using a PS3 controller to play, there was a significant amount of input lag. I can understand some input lag if using remote play, but this was a Vita game directly in the console.

Hooked up my PS3 and PS4 for testing purposes using the same TV, input channel and HDMI cable and had no lag on either one. Only with the PS TV.

Interesting. Luckily, I opted for a wired 3rd party ps3 controller instead. But I also didn't see any lag with my ps4 controller so it must be purely a ps3 over bluetooth issue. I wonder if it is a universal issue, or a faulty unit? Did you try your PS4 controller on it? If it is anything like my experience there should be no noticeable lag with it. I played Project Diva with it, so it was a decent game to test it on.

On the other hand I had the worst time getting the PSTV to see my DS3 controller. After a lot of messing around and trying other controllers (the Ps4 and the 3rd party ps3 which worked fine), my pstv was being super picky on the usb wire for it -.-

I read on GAF if you take the memory card out and put it in the PS TV then back into the Vita all the games/save files disappear. Don't know how wide spread that issue is but a big yikes to say the least.

I would stick with the Vita for now either way till more games become compatible unless you find the PS TV even cheaper.

I've swapped my memory card around 5/6 times already between my pstv and vita and haven't had this issue.

Might be memory card specific I have no idea TBH. I would be pissed if it even happended once, but thank god for Cloud uploads.

Look forward to future CAG/Gaf impressions.

I think that as long as both cards are from the same psn account, you can swap them around without problems. The psn digital store really wants one user per mobile device (pstv counts as a Vita to them).

So the PS TV handles psn profiles like the Vita?

As in having only one profile at a time to a card & to switch profiles needing multiple memory cards and a reset.

Yep it is the same way, with the only plus side over the vita is it is much faster to switch since they did away with that annoying intro video you had to watch with every time.

At this point, I think I might just get a Vita if I can find one cheap/on sale.

Vita TV having issues has me reconsidering buying both if I had the money to burn.  I have heard input lag on rhythm PS1 games, incompatiblity with several PSP games, and having to wait for Vita games to be patched to play has me waiting.

Plus the Vita is portable. The Vita is one of the greatest game consoles ever made. It's a shame Sony has failed for the most part in selling the thing.

It is better at playing PSP games than PSP(my only complain is no Crisis Core). It's the ideal console for PS1 games because of its screen.

Remote playing PS4 is a joy and you don't need to be home to do it.

Then you have Sony's Playstation Now which allows you access to PS3 and PS2 on there.

I love the Vita thoroughly and if not for my PS4 i'd be playing the hell out of it more other than remote play.
