Super Smash Bros. Limited Edition 3DS XL $185.24 @ Target.com Free Shipping

I feel bad for those who specifically want a 3DS for Smash Bros. NIntendo has put that crowd in in a tough spot, the New 3DS XL doesnt come out till next year, but Smash Bros comes out in 3 weeks. Ontop of that, if you are a hardcore smash fan, that added control stick is HUGE, so if you really want to play to your potential you WILL need the New 3DS....

The point is if you are playing SSB on the 3DS you will need a new 3DS soon enough. There are a ton of reports of the "disc" coming off the circle pad - or whatever they want to call it.

Super smash bros is not somehow magically making it fly off the 3ds. Its coming off because people are being too rough when playing it. That's as stupid as saying "Wii sports resort made my wiimote fly out of my hand and into my tv screen!"

Disagree. If the game requires certain repetitive motions on a particularly weak component, then playing that game on the handheld could be a direct cause of the damage. I agree that more investigation is required, but I can see how a game of this type could be the direct cause of unusual wear on a handheld that wasn't specifically designed for competitive fighting games.

I'm definitely interested in why it's happening, but consider Street Fighter, a major launch title. Fighters are not new to the machine. My guess is people are being too rough because OMG SMASH! If anything, I'd expect wear and tear to be much worse with SF, considering all the rapid quarter circle, half circle motions required. Jamming the stick for a smash attack could be rough, but my guess is it's a matter of people getting overly excited and using force when all that's needed is timing.

Lastly, if the new stick is for auto-smash attacks, as I believe was the case for Melee, if I recall correctly, it may well solve the issue - assuming that's the cause of the damage.

Who the hell said it was magically making it fly off? How about being ignorant in thinking that a game requiring the same repetitive motions might not quicken the pace since most 3ds games will not thrash the pad like that. If you supinate while walking you will wear the outside of your shoes out faster, running even more so. Same principle here but I guess I need to spell it out for some people. Yes, I can be a jerk as well.

Playing a game, on a handheld that requires (if you are trying to win) thrashing the circle pad around will wear it out faster. Nintendo should have thought of that when they were designing it and the game. That is what it is saying.

The 'analog' pad for the 3ds is a different design than those on conventional controllers. The 3ds is a disc that is meant for compact space and not so much for durability.

The lack of a c-stick (2nd analog) to use smash attacks will also cause lots of players to slam the disc.

Yeah. I don't even think Nintendo should be releasing it on a handheld in the first place. I don't really want to play a non-HD Smash Bros. at this point.

... There are 4 smash (not special moves) directions. Also, how will you get that and the other 3 special moves without the circle pad?
You don't need to smash it. It's not even dependent of the circle pad alone. Even Kid Icarus Uprising didn't have a lot of violent kids breaking their pads and it needed successive quick circle pad movement for successive dodges.
