Man killed in a robbery while trying to sell a PS4 on Craigslist

That is totally messed up. Unbelievable and sad that a fellow gamer lost his life over a console. The authorities should charge her as an adult. If she is old enough to have a baby and kill a man, she is old enough to spend a serious amount of time in jail.

I'm a bit furious just because they won't release her name. She needs life in prison.

I'm sure this hits you pretty hard considering you have sold on Craigslist quite a bit if I remember correctly. I bet the seller thought it was safe meeting in a apartment parking lot.

Just use extra caution when dealing with strangers all you CAGs. If someone threatens you just give them what they want. No reason to lose your life. You never know what kind of person you are dealing with.

Aw man...I am supposed to be selling my system tonight to a guy on craigslist.  I always get nervous about craiglist deals and now I read this!

Sad sad just a 20 something year old trying to sell his
console and is killed by some thugs.

Hard to blame the guy for resisting giving the console.
I work so hard for so little I would have done the same.

It would have been less sad if the shooters baby was shot and
Killed.

A good rule of thumb would be always meet at a public place preferably with video cameras. I would most likely pick the 711 down the street from my house, cameras all over the building.

Yea That's what I do as well...Normally a shopping center parking lot, people are everywhere.

Wow, 16 and her 16 month old child was in the car a few feet away?  Quite the specimen.

The toddler will be the worst off of all, since she'll likely end up in foster care because of things her stupid bitch of a mother did.

Hopefully they charge her with 1st degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon (her BF's hand being shot) as well as child endangerment.

Awful story.  Jesus, instead of stealing over food or money, this is over a PS4.  Proof that the couple are idiots that should never be allowed to have kids.  Humans beings are horrible.  Reminds me of the story when a guy got killed trying to flip his PS4 during launch week.  Ironically, the two people were supposed to meet at a police station.  The guy came prepared by asking to meet at the station and bringing a gun with him, but ends up getting killed anyway:

Those stories are pretty tame compared to some of the other craigslist murders over the years.  Some of them are so outright disturbing I'll leave them up to you if you want to search them (i.e. rape, pregnant women, etc.)

fuckin' people.

I hope everyone here takes special care of themselves when conducting business on Craigslist. I, myself, only meet in the parking lot of a fastfood resturant. Mind you, this is a small parking lot, too, with no spaces more than 50 feet from the building. Also, never meet passed dark.

if i was to do a craiglist meetup, i probably would of brought someone with me, or had them monitor the deal in case something goes wrong.

the idiot in your story moved from the original meet point from the police headquarters to behind some gas station, and homes.

That's a good rule. My oldest nephew always takes a second person. It is too easy to be caught unaware when trying to make the transaction, so a second set of eyes is crucial. We've had instances locally where another person ambushes the seller/buyer. Those probably wouldn't have happened with a tag-along. There have also been instances where both parties agree to meet in a public place with video cameras, but once they arrive are directed to another location where the item allegedly is kept. Those are the main targets right now in our area.

My oldest nephew also has a permit to carry and goes armed. So does the second person usually. I don't recommend that for most people that haven't had sufficient training with a firearm, but in his individual case because I know his background and training it makes it less worrisome. He deals with large amounts of cash (usually sells cars or motorcycles), so the risk for his transactions is also a little higher than a normal deal.

Our local police department actively encourages people to meet in their parking lot for Craigslist transactions, going so far as to make a "news" story that basically amounted to a PSA. They have a nice open lot with no place to hid and lots of surveillance. Even with precautions like this, however, somebody acting irrationally as this 16-year-old did wouldn't even consider the consequences and there may be an incident anyway. The surveillance only aids the investigation after the fact.

This is definitely the way to go. If possible, just meet at/near your local police station. But yeah, definitely somewhere highly populated.

Usually the person wants to try out the PS4 to see if it works, before they buy it. What do people do in this situation?

The article says PS4, but the video says Xbox (One).  The video shows an Xbox One box with a remembrance message on it.

Anyway, the kid is going to suffer horribly.  Especially if she finds out that her biological mother is prison or was executed over a gaming system.

Then again, the article says she was 16.  I don't know how that will work given the differing rules of each State being charged as an adult.

Yeah, so the kid is 16 months, a year and four months.  The guy is 20 and the mom is 16.  So she was pregnant when she was 15 and he was 19.  Hmm...maybe the legal age of consent is lower in Georgia.

When I sell used systems on craigslist, I offer to videotape myself testing out the system on my smartphone.

I'll record myself viewing the latest email correspondence to prove the system was recently tested, the system turning on and testing it out with a random game, and finally the serial number of the console. The buyer can verify the serial number in person to ensure they're the same system. That way you don't have to meet at anybody's house and can meet in a more neutral location. If it's a new system, I just offer them the receipt which usually displays the serial number so no testing needed if I'm selling it new.

Personally, I live in an apartment complex and I find games and some systems only flipworthy if I don't have to drive to anybody. I just request them to meet at my leasing office since my place is gated anyway.

I've uploaded videos to YouTube of the item working.

Also I have a small HDTV, which allows me to test items at gas stations with an outlet on the outside.

The times I have done Craigslist meets ups is in middle of the day in a Walmart parking lot in clear view of a security camera.

Lots of people to be potential witnesses and video evidence. Also, I always bring someone along. And usually try to arrive 15 min early to sit at a distance and wait for their vehicle to go to the spot first so I can see if they are scoping anything out first.

I actually was testing a Vectrex system using an outlet on the outside of a bank building... needless to say I attracted the attention of some police who happened to be passing by.
