This is a huge HDD but I'm not sure I want to add another $160 cost on to my already $500 XBOne.
Couldn't you create a console and a PC partition on it? I mean, I wouldn't need 5 TB for my One, but over the next 5 years, I could probably find a combined use between PC and console.

I wanted to jump on this but those reviews..
Yeah, pass on Seagate for me. My dad got a couple of Seagate internals and had one fail after maybe 6 months, while my WD external lasted more than twice as long as my cousin's Seagate, so I kinda just view Seagate drives from a distance, since they don't ever get priced cheaply enough to accept the quality risk.

I bought that same model of hard drive from Amazon, and it ran extremely hot out of the box. Then it broke IN A WEEK. I've also heard that the USB port connected to the drive can be finicky.

Wouldn't buy a Seagate with that enclosure again. , but that is a lot of space.

Some of the reviews are critiquing things like warranty and driver issues (compatibility with OS) while only a few were on the item itself.

That being said Seagate is now a mediocre HDD company. Treat it as such. Think of them as a middle tier HDD. If you go into it with that notion then you'll be fine

I wouldn't personally recommend buying this.  Mine died in a couple days, returned it and got another.  The second one didn't even last a week, so I ended up just getting a refund.

I wouldn't even call them middle-tier anymore. Their products are constantly on sale and are more like budget-priced bottom-tier products. Seagate is a good company to buy from if you want to lose your data.

I had a feeling it was Seagate before I even opened the thread. People save your money. Their HDDs are cheap for a reason

Agreed. I got burned from them 2 years in a row. NEVER again

No. The X1 uses its own format. Its unreadable on a PC. Any external used for it needs to be dedicated

Funny thing is, I'd only be considering it to break it open and replace the 640-GB WD Black inside my desktop.

I have a bunch of external Seagate portable HDDs, ranging from 80gb to 1tb. Never had one fail. My PS3 also has an internal 500gb Seagate, been working great for almost two years.

At a company I used to work for, we had multiple internal Western Digital drives fail over a period of a few years. So I prefer Seagate, but I do know that the quality of many HDDs over the last few years (all brands) has declined a lot.

Would love to get some external (and internal for consoles) solid state drives to replace these mechanical ones, but they're still too expensive. They should be a lot more reliable in the long run.

Really want to jump but the reviews are scary. I've actually had good experience with Seagate products but this seems way iffy.

5TB would probably last me the whole XB1 gen without deleting much... maybe.

I've never had a Seagate fail on me (knock on wood.)

I have had about 6 of them, constantly upgrading in size and speed.

I just recently got the Backup Plus version of this drive from Newegg for $160.  So far so good.

I have this exact drive except its in 3TB..gonna use it for movies only..if its good I will end up getting the 5TB one when I purchase my XBOX ONE..luckily I got this drive at staples so if its defective I can return it up to 14 days..Never had any issues with seagate before, have 4 seagate hard drives, 5 years old and still going strong

I would recommend the 5TB Toshiba since it has a 3-year warranty. Plus, if you want to use it as an internal, it's a 7200 RPM drive.

do you have the model number of that particular drive will check it out once I get the XBOX ONE(I assume this hard drive is recommended for the x1)

It's the Toshiba HDWC250XK3J15TB Canvio Desktop External Hard Drive. The lowest I've seen it on sale is $175 at B&H and Amazon, but it may have been lower on a day I wasn't looking. I use it as an internal in my PC, and its been great the few months I've owned it. I have no idea if it can be used as an external drive for Xbox One.

What drives do you guys recommend? I have a 1 TB in my PC and a 2 TB Seagate Freeagent that I think is going to crap out on me any moment.

Thank goodness they've finally passed 4TB...this is going to get really tricky to store stuff now that companies are too lazy to put any thing on disc...

5TB is a drive that would last me forever. I don't think I'd need anything higher in size than that.

I have the 3TB version of this drive, I use it for movies only..the only problem Im seeing, even with the older drives that I have is that for some reason it sometimes disconnects from the PC..I will be transferring something over and I will see the transfer rate go to 0 so thats how I know something is wrong. I have windows 8.1. I thought at first it was an issue with this particular drive I have but even my older Seagate drive had the same thing happen to it today

For those considering liberating the drive from it's external inclosure and installing it in a rig for your OS, it's 5400 rpm. As a pc gamer, I can't see any use for this, personally.

Are we sure the new consoles will support this amount of external memory? I could be wrong but it'd be good to check.

Also I would recommend a WD hard drive instead, they seem to be the best quality ones out there.
