Bidding on eBay

Does anyone know if your max bid jacks up the price to that amount even if the other bidders have bid at a much lower amount? For example, say I was going to buy a television: I bid $400 at the last second and the next highest bidder only bid $300. Would the final price be $400 or would it just go up a dollar or so from the next highest bidder's price?

It goes the next bid up from what the other person bid.

So if they bid $300 the highest bid would be $301 or whatever.
