3DS hinge broke - Options?

My son's 3DS right hinge, or rather the plastic around it, cracked and broke off today.  I'd rather not go out and buy a new one, so I'm going to try to repair it myself or get it repaired.  This is new territory for me.  Anyone have any insight or suggestions?

Part of me wants to replace the shell myself, just because it'd be a project.  But, then again.....it'd be a project and I haven't done much of that kind of thing.

I have replaced a ds lite shell. Lots of little things. Mine still works, but now has a slight hump at the bottom. Have no idea what I did wrong, but don't want to open it up again. The 3ds would probably be the same amount of difficulty, I would imagine. Try to find a video to watch first. Thats what I did with the ds lite.
