3 Spell Trees: Warrior, Thief, Cleric
(You can mix and match)
In comparison to Dark Souls:
Recharging at a checkpoint does not respawn enemies. Leaving the area or dying will.
If you die, you will drop your experience. HOWEVER, your experience pool gets smaller the longer to take to retrieve it. HOWEVER, If you stand near your experience pool it will give you a buff while you fight.
You can bank experience towards stats or spells. The longer you fight without banking experience the higher your experience multiplier will become.
LotF has multiple new game+ runs. Each will allow you to add a spell tree to your available options.
There are stones that are unlocked when an area's boss is defeated. Once active you can use these stones to travel to a secret area full of treasure that may or may not be guarded.

FAQ: http://fextralife.com/forums/t39551/lords-of-the-fallen-faq/Gameplay
Lords of the Fallen is an action RPG that has similar mechanics to Dark/Demon's Souls, but with a faster paced combat. The player has to study enemies and their attack patterns in order to defeat them. Trying to blindly attack an enemy will most likey result with the players death.
The game is not open world, but its not fully linear as there are reasons to re-visit previous areas of the game as the player progresses through the story.
The game has several endings and a moral system. The players will decide if Harkyn will be a hero, a villain or something in-between.
Every boss has a beat clause that will reward the player with a better variant of reward.
Beat the first boss without taking damage and you'll get a variant of his sword that allows you to use one of his attacks.
