Nice Critique of the new New 3DS

But “New 3DS”? I can already imagine the conversations at the GameStop counter.

“Do you have a new 3DS?”

“I’m sorry, did you say new 3DS or New 3DS?”

“My son wants a new 3DS for his birthday.”

“A new New 3DS?”

“A new 3DS.”

“We have a used New 3DS.”

“I will take the cheapest one.”

“Ah, that would be a new old 3DS”

*child cries on his birthday*

It’s like the “Who’s on first?” of video game hardware naming.

Yeah, nintendo is very creative when it comes to their games, and their consoles' names.

Can't believe that Nintendo is so poor at naming their consoles. Do they even bother to market test any of these names? It seems like they're trying to copy Apple ("New iPad"), but they end up just bungling their console names and looking foolish. The Wii U would probably have been better received with a half-decent name as well. Very sad.

Apple can sell anything. Even when it's utter crap that hasn't been beta tested. Nintendo used to be like that. It seems like their success during the Wii/DS era has sapped their creativity. It would have been so much better for business to go with Wii2 and 3DSi or 3DS Max or something like that. But that might have made sense.

Unless they really are shifting over to the new system and not making any more flagship games for the 3DS, I'm probably going to sit this one out like I did with the DSi. Mid-gen upgrades just don't appeal to me that much.

3DS: Super Turbo Edition.

You can just shorthand it down to N3DS and avoid the "Who's on first" issue.  If they ask what the N3DS is you can just say its the one with the nipple.
