Well, we beat NS last night since they came in 3rd place. Didn't get a screen because Anet was like 'derp, new build' and booted us all out immediately. We're also fighting Henge of Nerds or w/e, so I'm pretty sure Anet made this a clash of the titans server week lol. I swear, that server has only one guild because PRX is EVERYWHERE. They're really oldschool, but I hadn't realized what a zerg they turned into. We already beat them the first day though, because it's just a matter of who grabs what early in the day that wins.

So are we expected to run with power/toughness/vitality gear for PvP? Was checking the vendor at there's absolutely no customization, which to me sounds terrible. All my stats are power/precision/crit damage because to me a thief should be high dps and damage mitigation comes from blind/dodge/daze (read: skill). Maybe someone should clue Anet in on how their classes work? I am curious to see how much difference it would make versus aoe, though. Then again, pretty bad to balance aoe around one stat but it wouldn't be the first time devs got something wrong.

Has he completed every single heart and gotten every waypoint/POI in every map? I don't think he has.

That's more of completionist, than beat the game. I'm at 61% though and might finish off the lowbie zones if I ever get around to crafting. It wouldn't take more than a few days anyway, but it's boring as Fuck.

Oh and actually it's impossible right now because a skill challenge in Straits of Hell is bugged. Could be sitting on two more exotic items which are selling for 1-2g right now if not for that.

Not surprising that you're sitting on real great items considering you are level 80! As far as PvP, it is able to be customized in a way based on your playstyle. Since you're a damage type of guy, roll with a glass cannon build. I personally use a long range, passable survivability guy.

So what do you guys find is the best way to gear out your level 80 characters?
The karma and gold prices on legendaries are ridiculous.
At first I thought dungeons would be the way to go but the loot drops there have been trash for me. Although I haven't done any of them on explorable mode yet.

OK, so where do I get 80 gear with my stats for karma then? See the problem? They put the same stats on all the PvP vendor gear and the temple vendors in Orr are even worse because the stats are all over the place. I'm using 70-78 gear that I've got from quest rewards or drops because I can't find anything better without spending gold. Good thing they can keep the TP up for more than 15 minutes, oh wait. . .

Karma is easy, just WvW or do pub quests all day. I could buy two pieces of gear right now but the stats are such trash that I haven't bothered. Instances are mostly worthless except for AC where you can farm gold fast (something like 1g/2 hours). I haven't done explorer mode on the last dungeon yet, but the loot we were getting from story was awful. Probably better to just farm gold and buy what you need at this point.

how is beating the last mission of a game not beating it?

Can you really beat a MMO?

Anyways grats. Heres hoping they release a expansion every 2 years so I never have to get into WoW. I just can't really see myself paying monthly ever again after this game. I realize theres more content in WoW but that doesn't justify the $15 a month for me when I have a backlog of games anyways.

From the sounds of things, the game is good, but the items and drops aren't. Perhaps waiting a few months for some patches to sort things out (i.e. balance the game more) is best...

Its playable and if you like PvP you could probably have enough fun to last till they fixed the problems (which are almost entirely PvE related).

But yea there are some pretty annoying bugs. Could have done with some more time in the oven.

So World v World is really fun. But does anyone else have issues with the ques? I'm on Henge of Denravi and I realize that there are guilds that just live in WvW but I had over a 3 hour wait the other day.
The thing is, sometimes I'll que before a group of my friends and they'll get in first. I'll wait another half an hour and nothing. So I relog and que up and I'm there in 20 mins.
It's not the waiting that annoys me, it's the fact that I might not even be qued. They need to show you your position in que.

yea i haven't been able to wvw yet. i've queued up twice for 2 hours each never got in. friends got in within 20 mins.

i've been doing some sPvP though instead. pretty fun stuff. me and my lads even came in second in one of the tournies! of course rewards are bugged so we didn't actually get anything but it was cool just to make it that far.

You won't get in because PRX owns your server's WvW. We're fighting you guys this week and I have not seen a single other guild in there from your server. My queue time is either instant or not very long on Blackgate since a lot of guilds transferred off apparently. Now that they've nerfed the yak farming in WvW, I might actually try playing again because before I'd be trying to fight 10v1 everywhere I went while our server leveled off escorts.

Hate to say it, but I'm already getting bored with this game. For whatever reason, perhaps the absence of a monthly sub, there just doesn't feel like any drive to keep playing. I think it's the fact that you can 'beat' the game that gives it that finality of "I'm done". WvW is nice, but I just can't get behind the zerg mentality. There's a few balance issues that need addressing and I'm finding it very hard to find good 1v1's, because that's where I can really challenge myself and find good players. That and who I'm facing are all nameless nobodies thanks to their boilerplate server name stamp. How am I supposed to call people out for being bad? ;)

thats actually what the big appeal of guild wars was for me. a mmo-style game that had a story with an end that you could beat.

once that was done it was the fun of all the different kinds of pvp and farming for skins/trying to amass as much wealth as possible.

pretty sure its going to end up the same with gw2 for me. once the game is beat, i'll play it like i would DotA, a match here and there.

if you want 1v1 fights play sPvP. people try to one man cap all the time which leads to some fun fights.

Heh, TORtanic has nothing left for me. All the guilds worth fighting have moved on and I won't do huttball 24/7 ever again.

I think the other issue I'm facing is the combat isn't very engaging. As I said, the lack of 1v1 means that I'm typically using dodge on cooldown for the sake of moving out of red reticles EVERYWHERE. And again, 95% of the time, as a thief, I'm using a bow so that I survive more than 5 seconds in the dogpile (or hit people hiding on ramparts/repairing gates). I want to play my class the way I think it should be played and I can't. It's all just kind of shit, really.

Which is even worse because the other two sucked hard and the last one they put in before I quit had zero creativity. They just took elements of the others and mashed it together.

You should try running around with a small group. When my friends and I get lucky and make it into WvW, we've had a couple good 4 man groups going. It's annoying to run around by yourself since there are a lot of threats out there. But if you run around in a small group you can take supply camps and destroy other groups. A well organized group doesn't need to be worried about being outnumbered by a few guys. But you always have to worry about the zerg coming around the corner.

As a thief you're supposed to excel at 1v1 battles, but if you run around with zerg groups how can you expect that to happen? Don't run with massive zerg groups, play outside of those groups and seek out other outcasts.

Kind of hard when you're being server capped and pushed to your spawn lol. Today was the first time I've seen this buff you get for being outnumbered; what a zergfest.

So I'm not sure what the deal is with free server transfers, if they're still ongoing or what but it occurred to me today that after we dominated that first week, scrubs from those servers likely flooded to ours. Now we're being shit on because they're filling WvW queues and sucking it up. To complicate things, I believe this drove off any of the good guilds we had.

Another complaint I'm seeing often is it's not worth trying hard right now since it's soft launch and WvW isn't being considered 'live'. It's a fair point since points reset randomly and in the last two days we've had four new servers contesting us, just randomly rotating in. This has probably turned off any PvPers that are left because I can get into any WvW queue instantly. Hard to say whether the server has just become defunct or if people really don't care right now.

I can't say I'm completely surprised, given the game was designed to be imbalanced whenever a guild(s) dominates a server. Unfortunately, servers are at the mercy of the lottery with this game, whether you'll be fairly matched comes down to 1's and 0's. This is what I believe will be the death of GW2 for anyone who solely enjoys world PvP. The zerg guilds are having a blast right now because this is what they came to do, but that usually wears off after a month or two. The servers being creamed are all calling no-joy and leaving the battlefield empty. Thanks to the free server transfers, it has completely undermined any sense of server pride and I'm sure some servers will never recover.

Those are my thoughts anyway and why I've practically stopped playing. A lot of great ideas will hopefully percolate throughout the MMO community because I did like some of what I saw here.

Well to be fair you never gave GW2 much of a shot at being a staple in your collection in the first place, so naturally - whether you knew it or not - you were fishing for reasons to quit playing.

BUT, I will agree with all the server hopping probably changing up WvW randomly. Ferguson's Crossing wins half of their matches but gets STOMPED in the other half. Part of that is probably due to the constantly changing opponents but it is also probably due to the fact that all people are doing now are trying to change to the newest opened US servers or Blackgate/Sanctum of Rall, etc.

Two weeks if you count early access. I also live in the present so I'm tired of the excuse of 'it just needs time'. Granted there's no monthly sub, but chances are if I didn't like something now, I won't later.

"It just needs time" isn't really an excuse for the game. If people judged MMOs purely by launch there wouldn't be many people playing MMOs.
People are still transferring servers. You mention server pride. You get that after spending time in a server.
Free server transfers aren't a bad thing. At least right now they're pretty important for stabilizing server populations.

play my first round of wvw today.

having 3 teams is a terrible idea.
after a day full of losing every objective, we were sieged on both sides by each of the other 2 servers cutting supply on either side and not fighting each other.

we were then spawn camped and i presume it is still happening. there is literally nothing you can do.

i'll play it for the monthly achievement but otherwise it is inferior in every way to structured pvp for anyone who likes balance.

also i'm really fucking bitter that engineer's are worthless in pvp and wvw doesn't give you free gear so i'm pretty much forced to play as my engy.

It's just not balanced well at all with regards to how much damage is going out period. When you have ballistas/cannons hitting for 5k, arrow carts making it rain, player damage, AND my biggest gripe. . .PvE in my PvP all doing damage, you can feel pretty insignificant in the war machine. I feel just as worthless in the grand scheme because gear, skill, level: none of it matters when you're facing a zerg.

For whatever reason I decided to give crafting a go last night and next thing I knew I was 400 LW/JC and decking myself out in better gear at 2am lol. I don't even know why I was theorycrafting with my character, but man it felt good. I just wish there was something of equal challenge in the game to test the gear on. I really started to get deep into weapon sigils and I don't think they're as cut and dry as one would think. For example, by default you only attack with your MH weapon until using 3, 4, or 5. Some sigils give what appear to be a passive increase, like 5% crit, but when you apply this to your OH weapon it does NOT appear on the paper doll. Leads me to believe the bonus is only when attacking with that weapon, because I swapped it into the MH slot and had the same result.

That or it's just a bug because this game has plenty. Still, they need to be more clear with just how this stuff works. For now, unless you're using your OH actively, it's probably best to just slot it with your favorite orb assuming it's level 80. Gives a clear advantage to DW characters since you can have a proc sigil in the MH and a stat orb in the OH. Seems very unbalanced given proc's are based on weapon speed and some have no ICD. I really want to test sigil of earth because bleeding stacks in intensity and dagger is extremely fast.

I really need a theorycrafting site to pop up because there's clearly a lot of imbalance here to take advantage of.

Tried out my new gear and absolutely raped 1v1, but holy hell I'm seeing that same two front war versus our server that your are now. It's clear to me that in this game WvW needs to be 1 on 1. It was so obvious in Eternal Battleground this afternoon that there was an armstice between servers because exactly half the map was split blue/green. They were attacking our final keep from both the north and south together to drive us out so they could play king of hill between each other. I mean, at that point our only option was to fight a losing war or retreat to another map to start taking stuff.

So I said Fuck it to Anet's poor design and ran solo ops versus sentries and anyone I could find. Problem is, when you control so little on the map and there's a giant zerg ball blocking you from leaving the spawn, the run back whenever I couldn't get away from a group just wasn't worth it. I think what's most infuriating is even though I'd sometimes end up 3v1, I'd still kill one but after they sent me back to my spawn, they could just revive them.

Dead is dead and their carebear revive system is stupid.

Dude, what are you talking about lol. Leveling crafting is a joke. Throw on a crafting booster and just discover random shit until the next tier. I had tons of mats with so much left over I just sold everything I didn't use on the TP for 2-3g all combined. Yes, I had to buy some of the higher end mats but only because Anet is fucking retarded in asking for stuff like 15 vials of potent blood for ONE THING. That and the runes/silk for LW off the vendor was my biggest expense. I have 97% world completion now, so I already had enough mats ready to go without trying.
