**UNCONFIRMED** meaning just that, other than Wikipedia, I found nothing to confirm its existence.

NOTE: On the Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance Lim. Promo. Ed. was released only as a preorder bonus for purchasing MK: Armageddon. As such it is available in very limited quantities and comes with a new insert that is not available in the regular GH version of the game as well as a slightly altered cover fact on the DVD with the words "Promotional Copy Not For Resale" this is also printed on the insert as well. Midway did a similar promotion with Shadow Hearts: Covenant by giving Shadow Hearts away for free.

GTA3??? Tekken Tag?!?

I sure hope the rumors are true and there really is a PS2 price drop after E3 because I just may need to pick one up along with some of them games :)
Thanks!!

As a side note, i hate the GH concept. There are tons of games that sell well past 400,000 and are over 9 months old, but are still full-price. The GH moniker is just a cover for "games that cost too much to make and whose sales are lagging so we have to recoup our losses somehow". For example, FFX sold well over 400,000 and came out in 2001, but it's STILL $40!!!

Uhh, when you sell 400,000 copies of a game, you really don't have many losses to recoup.

Thats because FFX is still selling well at $40. Why lower it $20 when you're still making money off of it?

Exactly.

Woohoo, my first post.
Anyway, I can confirm that Pac-Man World 2 is a GH. It was at target. Dont know if its any good though.
socom?? is that with out the headseT??

i would get it if i had the NA
It is without the headset.

The greatest hits is a marketing concept that proved well in the PSone era. The point was that when a title hit a saturation point of the target audience (the people who would pay $40-$50 for the title) as well as a certain number of copies shipped (note not sold, explains why every acclaim title is a GH  ), they would give the publishers a substantial royalty break on the future units shipped, if the title complied with the greatest hits guidlines.

This concept actually shipped many more units and proved to be profitable for both SCEA and the publishers. SCEA was able to get additional royalties on titles that would have most likely been shelved because of market saturation. Publishers were able to sell more units because of favorable royalty rates to sell units at a reduced cost.

Units were sold to those who would never have purchased the title at a cost of $39.99+, but became interested in it at a reduced rate. This also was done to counter the used/pirate markets, by making new, quality, licensed product available for a unheard of rate.

Publishers are not obligated to take part in this program, however they are offered the opportunity to. Games like the Final Fantasies, DDRs, etc, that do meet the guidlines, may opt to stay out of the series because selling at full price, or even a slighter discount may be more profitable to them at the royalty rate that they are presently at.

Any news on Kingdom Hearts? I've seen the art for the new box on amazon and EB but everywhere I've been still has it listed at $50. In addition Best Buy since they have no record of an upcoming price drop (not that I trust that any). Also, any chance Kingdom Hearts is going to premier at the $30 point instead of $20?

Thanks for posting that. There are a lot of games i foud there that i might get, and a lot of games i didnt know were $20.

I think Lord of the Rings: The Towers is now a greatest hit. Saw it at Wal-Mart in GH packaging, yet it still was labeled 29.99.

Dragonball Z: Budokai is a GH now/soon. On the commercial for the port of the GC version, it also shows the PS2 one in the GH packaging.
When did Vf4 Evo hit the list
When it came out. It was able to meet the GH criteria from sales of VF4 non-Evo... now only if I had the release date handy ;)

Although Lord of the Rings is a greatest hit it is infact 29.99
Many people also see the GTA Bundle pack with the Greatest Hits logo on it and assume it's 19.99(Ha), but alas that ranks in at 29.99

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance also a greatest hit COMPLETELY WORTH GETTING EVEN AT $50.....Tekken my ass, only topped by Soul Calibur II, VF4:Evo is great but it just doesn't have the uniqueness and amazing attitude of MK:DA.

side-note: SmackDown! Shut Your Mouth also a GH

I've seen on occasions BB package two greatest hits for only $20. Not sure if they plan on doing that again anytime soon, though.

Just got the March 2004 issue of PSM. Looks like you can add Xenosaga to this list. Full page ad on page 29. It's now a GH title. Good thing I picked up the original box version for $9.99 at KB. :D
quick question...

are there actually any differences (packaging aside) between PS 2 GH and non-GH games?
Nope.
I believe Silent Hill 2 had some additional content in the GH version, but I could be wrong.
I thought someone mentioned that too, which is why I asked. I posed the question to a worker at EB, and they didn't know, though someone who heard me ask it said the XBox version features more content, and PS 2 GH games aren't different than the originals.

is there anyone who has both versions of a game, preferrably Silent Hill 2 GH and non-GH, who can say for sure?

Yes...the Slient Hill 2 Greatest Hit for PS2 has the new scenario with the woman that was originally only included in the Xbox version.
Yes...the Slient Hill 2 Greatest Hit for PS2 has the new scenario with the woman that was originally only included in the Xbox version.
thanks for the info optimusprime. glad I didn't buy this yet, I'll have to pick up the GH version.

now the most difficult question... does anyone know of any other GH games which differ from the originals, if there are any?
are there actually any differences (packaging aside) between PS 2 GH and non-GH games?
Crash Bandicoot GH version they improved the load times (which were quite long originally).

Also, Spyro Enter the Dragonfly is now GH.

CheapyD, any chance you updating the list on the first page of this sticky? :)

Balder's Gate: Dark Alliance?

I have the original version, but since I just bought it, I wonder if I should get the GH one instead. then again, it does look a bit better in the original case... :)
