Austin

I was thinking about creating a list for Austin, but didn't think I'd get a response.

At least there's two of us.

Hi everybody! I'm from Austin too. I've been a member for a while, just never write anything. I guess this can be the first. :D

I'm in CS. Lived in Austin...well okay, Pflugerville for about a year and a half back in elementary school. Did anyone go to Northwest?

My sis = @ UT though.

So I'm close. :(
I live south austin, where do you guys live?
I'm so far south that there's nothing around where I live at all but housing developments and neighbors,
but its not like I'm going to talk to my neighbors, so its just housing developments,

Representing E Austin, Between E.Riverside Drive and E.Oltorf.... Let's just say I have a baseball bat hanging around my place just incase.

As for deals, on new games it's Fry's hands down. But for used games I find the Blockbusters in Oak Hill and over here on Riverside near the HEB/Exxon/Bodega complex to be good.

I don't know if any Austinites are gonna check out the TRU sale this week, but I would be VERY VERY happy if anybody could pick me up the following games if you see them:

GBA
Boktai 2
Klonoa 2 Dream Champ Tournament
Mario Pinball

PSP
Darkstalkers

Xbox
Fatal Frame 2
Prince of Persia 2
Sid Meier's Pirates

PS2
Digital Devil Saga 1

I'd be happy to reimburse you for your time!!! I'm stuck in Minnesota right now, nowhere near a TRU!
Anyone have any luck picking up Guitar Hero locally?
I had to go to Georgetown to find a copy...but this was a couple of weeks ago. There might be more in local Bestbuys now.

Is San Marcos close enough to count?

Because I'd hate to miss out on learning the secret Austin CAG handshake by less than half an hour.
Anyone here planning on going to Ushicon next month?
I'm actually in charge of running the Game Room this year. We're still planning and such. I can give people free admission for helping out.

Just to let Austinites that don't already know about it, there's a newer game store that sells older classic game stuff (as well as some newer, XBOX/PS2/GC). It's called GameOver and is located in that little strip center at the corner of Lamar and Anderson (near where 183 crosses over Lamar, South of the Bingo Hall across Anderson).

It's a pretty small place, but has some neat classic games/systems as well as some gamer related T-Shirts. The store buys older stuff too. It's basically a Mom & Pop (well, just Pop as he owns/runs the store) type smaller shop. So, if you are looking for something of the classic stuff that GameStop/EBGames doesn't carry, ya may find it there.

PS: No, I'm not associated with the store in any way. A local game store clerk told me about the store (he shops there too) and I just thought I would pass along the info for those that didn't already know about it.

San Marcos is close enough. Im in Lockhart and I act like I belong in Austin so you can too lol.

Not sure what Ushicon is but a year or two possibly 3 ago, there was some gaming thing that was done in round rock in some hotel out in the la frontera shopping center that sucked big donkey d. It was neat seeing the display of old school stuff but the game prices for used were hella high and at that rate id just assume go buy a new copy. The free video games were cool and those were kinda expensive as well. I went there with the impression that the advertisement mentioned trading etc etc. The trading with the dealers was basically if you didnt take a pounding in the ass, there was no trade to be had.

I actually went to that. I also was pretty disappointed in the merchants. Free arcade games were cool.

Stink_Pickle/secretvampire,

I was also there. It was called Austin Gaming Expo (A.G.E.). Some of the Atari Age people were behind helping put it on. It was supposed to be more of a classic gaming gettogether for buying/selling/trading/playing older classic games. However, they never realized their advertising (flyers in GameStop/etc.) how many people would show up. It got a LOT more response than they thought it would (especially for the small venue).

Trading did suck ballz. Most of the dealers willing to actually trade were ones that had the classic stuff and were looking for awesome items in trade. Part of the problem was that most dealers of newer stuff didn't know the whole trading thing was going to be such a big deal. They were looking to get paid for stuff and come out with cash in hand (not more merchandise)...lol.

My biggest disappointment was the lack of Dreamcast stuff there. I was looking for some stuff and hoped there would be some there. I basically came out of the show with a free game guide for my wife and a copy of the Dinosaur movie on DVD for our boys. I didn't find jack for myself. Playing the old games for free was nice thou.

I talked to one of the people involved with Atari Age (who still goes/does shows in other cities) about if/when they are going to do another one around here. He told me they want to, but it takes a lot of effort and they just need the time/place to put it together. I never understood why it just "went away" when they had the kind of turn out they did. Austin is full of gamers that would have gone to another one of these things (especially if some of the comments on things like lack of trading/etc. had been taking into consideration).

Here's the link for the website when it was held...

I ran the Super Mario Kart Challenge booth there at the Austin Gaming Expo. I played like 400 rounds of battle mode and permanently messed up my hands.

I knew the game was addictive but d*mn!...lol. We used to get Super Nintendo (numb) thumb from Mortal Kombat and stuff back in the day too. Thank God for ergonomic controllers nowadays.
I'm actually in charge of running the Game Room this year. We're still planning and such. I can give people free admission for helping out.
cool, I might see you there then, I'm planning on being there most (if not all) weekend,
are any tournaments being planned, and if so, what games?

Speaking of arcades, did anyone go to the Le Fun auction? I had hoped to, but it looked like they got rid of the neo geo machine over the winter break.
Where to live in Austin? Hmmm...depends how much money you have....;)
Which is why I asked, if you could live anywhere.
