Super Smash Bros. Melee has finally dropped down to $19.92 at Wal-Mart! I think this is a home office price change, so it should be nationwide.

I'm guessing this price is "in store" only since it still has the $29.82 price on Walmart's on-line site.

Maybe the original version of the game is $29.99, but the Player's Choice version has been $19.99 for a while.

You really, really, really need to check your facts. SSBM is the only PC title that has not been $19.99 and has retailed at $29.99 (that I know of).

I've personally never seen a Player's Choice packaged SSBM, so I would guess so.

SSBM was a PC title for a couple of months, but still retailed at 29.99. This caused a lot of confusion so nintendo removed the PC label and stuck a "Best Seller" sticker on it. Perhaps now they will be printedwith a PC label once again.

This is the first time I've ever seen Wal-Mart do a price drop. It's both difficult and easy to understand why they are No.1 in game sales.

I'd rather be from Titusville and be smart/well-liked, then live in a shit-hole like Tampa and be a genuine dumbass like you. Get the Fuck out of here.

Does anyone find this amusing? A launch game 4 years ago still carries a $30 price tag. Halo had a $50 price tag for 2.5 years and lowered it to $30, where it stayed until recently.

If someone can figure out the secret, then that person will be one rich man. I don't think the quality of the game is the only factor. There has to be a secret to it. Too many quality games drop in price quickly.

I guess it's all based on sales figures, and SSBM has sold well enough to stay at $30 (deservedly so - what a fun multiplayer game).

Exactly; SSBM, a launch title, is still one of the best selling GCN games. Pretty sad when you think about it.

Animal Crossing was $29.99 as well until it finally fell to $19.99

no secret, just basic economics. remember, companies price games to maximize profit. therefore nintendo has been keeping ssbm at $30 because they think they were making more money that way. for example, say 7 people are thinking about buying the game, 5 will buy it at 30 and all 7 will buy at 20. so nintendo would make $150 selling 5 at $30, or they would make $140 selling 7 at $20.

if they have dropped it to $20, then there are not many of the people willing to pay $30 for it left.

this is how it works with all games. someone is reviewing sales numbers each month for each game and deciding what price will make the most money, and they go with that.
