FAQ
(in progress)
Q: Why did you move to Tokyo?

A: Mrs. CheapyD (she is Japanese) got a great job here working doing legal work for a big insurance company. It was an offer we couldn't refuse.

Q: How did you meet Mrs. CheapyD?
A: We met in a nightclub (Twilo) in Manhattan. There is a long story behind us getting together, too long for this space.

Q: Do you speak Japanese?
A: No, not really. I know a little as I took some classes in NYC, but I am going to take more classes here.

Q: Do most Japanese speak/understand English?
A: Hardly. Although Japanese take compulsory English classes starting in Jr. High (I think), it seems that most do not understand very much English at all.

Pretty cool. I'll be watching this forum for your latest adventures. :D

What would be really cool is if you had a digital camcorder and you documented your adventures. Then, you (or someone else, if you aren't skilled with video or just don't want to be hassled) could edit together some sort of documentary (or documentaries). Then, we could make a CheapyD in Japan DVD.
Goodbye, CAG... take care now...

In Japanese cultural it's shameful to show pubes. So it's blurred out in porn.

One request: try your hardest to get into J-rock and J-pop at least a little? Please? I study music and enjoy it quite a bit, and there are some truly terrific artists in Japan, that truly are every meaning of the word artist. And even the bubblegum stuff is better in Japan than it is here..so please? I'm so jealous you get to live where there's J-music available everywhere..so please..just like I know you are immersing yourself in every beautiful nature of Japan, please give the J-music a chance? Not telling you to stop liking Western music, just let it speak to your heart.

this is quickly becoming one of my favorite forums. I knew Japan was different, but wow, some of these threads are hilarious! Keep it up cheapy!

Also, just wondering, can we post our own threads, just in case we want to ask questions to our man in Japan?

Cheapy, you have to do this!!!!

I was watchignt eh Daily Show and they ran a series of hilarious clips of celebrities in Japanese commercials. there was one with Arnold giving the peace sign. And another where Bruce Willis wore a gas tank on his back a-la Ghostbusters and went running to fill up a car while electricity was pouring out he nozzel. (that dooesn't seem safe.)

Anyway, you have to do the Commercial Celebrity Sighting Thread. Whenever you see some high and mighty celebrity in some absolutely absurd japanese commercial you'll have to post about it!

The 2014 E3 Theme: "Coming in 2015."

As a gaijin, Is it really easy to get a seat in a crowded sinkansen? I heard japanese would get up and leave as soon as they see an English speaking Gaijin in Sinkansen.
